STEEL STRUCTURE FITTER

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Must be at least a high school graduate.
  • Completion of a structured trade apprenticeship or national certification, such as NC II in a relevant metal trade, is required or highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and technical specifications.
  • Skilled in measuring, marking, fitting, and assembling steel components.
  • Experience using grinders, drills, cutting tools, and other fabrication equipment.
  • Knowledge of steel fabrication and structural assembly procedures.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing manual work and working at heights.
  • Safety-conscious and able to follow site safety rules and procedures.
  • Reliable, hardworking, and able to work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and structural specifications.
  • Measure and mark cutting, drilling, and bending lines on steel plates, beams, and other structural components.
  • Prepare steel materials for fabrication and assembly according to project requirements.
  • Position, align, clamp, and tack-weld steel components before final welding.
  • Use hand and power tools such as grinders, drills, and cutting equipment.
  • Operate or assist with overhead cranes, hoists, and other material-handling equipment when authorized.
  • Check dimensions, alignment, levels, and fit-up of assembled steel structures.
  • Identify and report structural fitting issues or dimensional discrepancies to supervisors.
  • Follow fabrication drawings, work instructions, quality standards, and project specifications.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Follow strict site safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Work safely at heights and follow applicable fall-protection requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform other steel fabrication and structural fitting duties as assigned.
