Stellar Recruitment (NZ) Limited is seeking qualified and experienced Diesel Mechanics to work in New Zealand. The successful candidates will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of diesel engines, heavy vehicles, and diesel-powered equipment. Candidates must have strong technical knowledge, practical mechanical skills, and the ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
DIESEL MECHANIC
Qualifications:
- At least 3–5 years of relevant work experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.
- Graduate of Automotive Technology, Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, or a related technical course.
- Must hold a TESDA National Certificate (NC II/NC III) in Automotive Servicing or a related qualification.
- Proven experience in diesel engine repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and overhaul.
- Knowledge of fuel injection, cooling, lubrication, braking, and electrical systems.
- Experience diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance, servicing, and repairs on heavy vehicles and diesel-powered equipment.
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals, service manuals, mechanical drawings, and related technical documentation.
- Familiarity with automotive diagnostic tools and professional workshop equipment.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to safe and quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physically fit and willing to work in a workshop or outdoor environment.
- Good English communication skills are an advantage.
Responsibilities:
- Perform inspection, servicing, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of diesel engines.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in heavy vehicles, diesel-powered equipment, and related machinery.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing according to manufacturer specifications.
- Repair and maintain diesel engines, fuel injection systems, cooling systems, lubrication systems, braking systems, and electrical systems.
- Inspect engine components and identify worn, damaged, or defective parts.
- Dismantle, repair, replace, and reassemble engine and vehicle components as required.
- Perform engine overhauls, adjustments, testing, and performance checks.
- Use automotive diagnostic tools, testing equipment, hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery safely and correctly.
- Test electrical and mechanical components to identify faults and determine appropriate repairs.
- Inspect and service braking, steering, suspension, transmission, cooling, and other vehicle systems.
- Carry out oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, adjustments, and other routine maintenance tasks.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, service manuals, specifications, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Follow manufacturer repair procedures and technical specifications when carrying out maintenance and repairs.
- Conduct post-repair testing to ensure vehicles and equipment are operating safely and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, servicing, parts, and maintenance activities.
- Report major mechanical faults, safety concerns, and additional repair requirements to supervisors.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop and work area.
- Properly handle lubricants, oils, fuels, chemicals, spare parts, and other workshop materials.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work independently when assigned and cooperate effectively with mechanics, technicians, supervisors, and other team members.
- Perform other diesel mechanical, heavy vehicle, and equipment maintenance duties as assigned.
