Stellar Recruitment (NZ) Limited is seeking qualified and experienced Light Vehicle Mechanics with specialized knowledge in electric, hybrid, and advanced vehicle technologies to work in New Zealand. The successful candidates will perform vehicle inspection, servicing, troubleshooting, electrical and electronic diagnostics, and repair work, with particular focus on high-voltage systems, battery technology, EV powertrains, and vehicle control systems. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and continuous technical development.
LIGHT VEHICLE MECHANIC
Qualifications:
- Qualified Automotive High Voltage Technician or equivalent trade qualification.
- Proven experience working on electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, or advanced vehicle technologies.
- Strong understanding of high-voltage battery systems and EV architecture.
- Experience performing advanced electrical and electronic diagnostics.
- Knowledge of Battery Management Systems (BMS), charging infrastructure, inverters, and vehicle control systems.
- Experience using manufacturer diagnostic platforms and software-based troubleshooting tools.
- Ability to analyze diagnostic data, interpret fault codes, and efficiently identify root causes.
- Strong understanding of EV powertrain and energy storage systems.
- Ability to safely work with high-voltage automotive systems and components.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality workmanship, and continuous learning.
- High Voltage Vehicle Safety Certification.
- Electric Vehicle Diagnostic Certification.
- Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Service Certification.
- Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Systems Training.
- High Voltage Battery Systems Training.
- EV Powertrain and Energy Storage Systems Training.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and technical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a professional automotive team.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, service, maintain, and repair light vehicles, including electric and hybrid vehicles.
- Perform advanced electrical and electronic diagnostics on modern vehicle systems.
- Diagnose faults in high-voltage vehicle systems using appropriate diagnostic equipment and procedures.
- Inspect and service high-voltage battery systems and related components.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot Battery Management Systems (BMS) and vehicle control systems.
- Inspect and diagnose EV powertrain and energy storage systems.
- Work with inverters, charging systems, electric motors, and other EV electrical components.
- Perform diagnostic testing and interpret fault codes using manufacturer-approved diagnostic platforms.
- Use software-based troubleshooting tools to identify vehicle faults and determine root causes.
- Analyze diagnostic data and technical information to accurately identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic problems.
- Carry out repairs and component replacement in accordance with manufacturer specifications and technical procedures.
- Conduct system checks and testing following repairs to verify safe and proper vehicle operation.
- Follow high-voltage isolation, shutdown, testing, and safe handling procedures.
- Ensure all high-voltage work is performed in accordance with applicable safety requirements and workplace procedures.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, service information, and EV system documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, diagnostics, repairs, testing, and maintenance activities.
- Keep diagnostic tools, workshop equipment, and work areas clean, safe, and properly maintained.
- Coordinate with other mechanics, technicians, supervisors, and service personnel when diagnosing complex vehicle issues.
- Keep up to date with developments in electric vehicles, hybrid technology, battery systems, diagnostic software, and advanced automotive technology.
- Participate in ongoing technical training and skills development.
- Perform other light vehicle maintenance, diagnostic, and repair duties as assigned.
