Shuttering Carpenter
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the construction industry as a Shuttering Carpenter, particularly in concrete works.
- Proven experience constructing shuttering and formwork for concrete walls, bridges, footpaths, and similar structures.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements, method statements, and risk assessments.
- Experience determining shuttering dimensions, materials required, and installation procedures.
- Experience planning and constructing shuttering forms for concrete pours.
- Skilled in measuring, cutting, and shaping wood, plastic, and other construction materials.
- Competent in the safe use of power tools and saws, including circular saws, jigsaws, sanders, and manual tools.
- Experience in concrete shutter assembly and preparing shuttering for crane lifting and positioning.
- Experience installing channels, clamp ties, strongbacks, and other formwork supports.
- Ability to accurately check and maintain the vertical and horizontal level and alignment of shuttering before concrete pouring.
- Experience stripping wooden shuttering after the required concrete curing period.
- Ability to inspect, clean, and prepare shuttering materials for safe reuse.
- Strong understanding of concrete formwork construction and safe work practices.
- Good attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to follow technical instructions.
- Physically fit and capable of performing demanding construction work, including lifting, bending, standing, and working at heights where required.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a construction team.
Responsibilities:
- Construct and install shuttering and formwork for concrete walls, bridges, footpaths, foundations, and other civil engineering structures.
- Determine the required dimensions, materials, and construction methods for shuttering works.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, measurements, and work instructions.
- Plan and construct shuttering forms to properly contain and support concrete during pouring and curing.
- Measure, mark, cut, shape, and assemble wood, plastic, and other formwork materials.
- Prepare shuttering components and materials according to project requirements.
- Assemble concrete shuttering and prepare completed forms for crane lifting and positioning.
- Install channels, clamp ties, strongbacks, and other supports to ensure shuttering forms are secure and adequately supported.
- Check and ensure the correct vertical and horizontal levels, alignment, dimensions, and positioning of shuttering before concrete pouring.
- Secure formwork against movement, pressure, and deformation during concrete placement.
- Inspect shuttering before concrete pours to ensure it is properly assembled, supported, and ready for use.
- Assist with the safe positioning and placement of shuttering using cranes and other lifting equipment as required.
- Work closely with concrete workers, steel fixers, site supervisors, crane operators, and other construction personnel.
- Use circular saws, jigsaws, sanders, drills, and other power tools safely and correctly.
- Use hand tools and manual equipment required for carpentry and formwork construction.
- Strip and dismantle wooden shuttering safely after the required concrete curing period.
- Carefully remove shuttering materials without damaging completed concrete structures.
- Clean, inspect, sort, and prepare reusable shuttering materials for future projects.
- Identify damaged, defective, or unsuitable formwork materials and report them to supervisors.
- Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
- Follow construction drawings, site instructions, method statements, and risk assessments.
- Comply with workplace health and safety requirements and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform other shuttering, formwork, carpentry, and construction duties assigned by the site supervisor.
Requirements:
- Must have a valid passport for more than 3 years
- Employment certificates
- NBI clearance valid for at least 1 year with “no derogatory / no record on file” remarks
- PEOS certificate
