Accurate Infrastructure Solutions Limited is seeking an experienced Sewing Machinist for an overseas work opportunity in New Zealand. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating industrial sewing machinery and fabricating heavy-duty textile products using high-density PVC, canvas, and other industrial textiles. The role requires strong technical sewing skills, precision in pattern execution and panel construction, the ability to interpret scale drawings and technical work orders, and experience working with heavy-duty materials and custom product designs.

SEWING MACHINIST

Qualifications:

• Preferably college level or vocational graduate, which may qualify the applicant to waive taking the English Test, subject to applicable requirements.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a Sewing Machinist is required.
• Proven experience operating industrial sewing machines for heavy-duty materials.
• Proficient in working with high-density PVC (600–700 GSM), canvas, and heavy industrial textiles.
• Strong skills in precision stitching and fabrication of durable industrial textile products.
• Experience with complex fabrication and assembly, including pattern execution and construction of shaped panels.
• Ability to accurately execute patterns and construct custom product designs.
• Direct experience interpreting precise measurements, scale drawings, technical work orders, patterns, and production specifications.
• Strong ability to measure, mark, cut, align, stitch, assemble, and finish heavy-duty textile materials.
• Knowledge of different industrial sewing techniques, stitching methods, thread selection, and machine settings.
• Ability to select appropriate needles, threads, and sewing machine adjustments based on material thickness and fabrication requirements.
• Experience identifying and correcting sewing defects and performing repairs or rework.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency in finished products.
• Good understanding of heavy-duty textile fabrication methods and finishing requirements.
• Ability to operate relevant hand tools and workshop equipment safely.
• Good knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures and proper PPE use.
• Professional Driver’s License is required.
• Physically capable of handling heavy-duty fabrics, PVC materials, and large textile assemblies.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and complete assigned production tasks with minimal supervision.
• Reliable, hardworking, organized, and committed to meeting production schedules and quality standards.

Responsibilities:

• Operate industrial sewing machines designed for heavy-duty PVC, canvas, and industrial textile materials.
• Work with high-density PVC materials ranging from approximately 600–700 GSM, canvas, and other heavy industrial fabrics.
• Set up, adjust, and operate sewing machines according to material type, thickness, stitching requirements, and product specifications.
• Perform precision stitching to produce strong, durable, and high-quality finished products.
• Execute patterns accurately according to approved designs, measurements, drawings, and work instructions.
• Cut and prepare fabric, PVC, canvas, webbing, and other materials according to specified dimensions and patterns.
• Construct shaped panels and complex textile components for custom-designed products.
• Assemble multiple fabric and PVC components while maintaining accurate alignment and positioning.
• Perform straight stitching, reinforced stitching, joining, hemming, edging, and other specialized sewing techniques.
• Interpret and follow scale drawings, precise measurements, technical work orders, patterns, and production instructions.
• Accurately measure, mark, and position materials before cutting and sewing.
• Ensure correct seam allowances, stitch lines, panel dimensions, and finished product measurements.
• Select appropriate needles, threads, machine settings, and sewing techniques based on material thickness and product requirements.
• Inspect materials before production and identify defects, damage, incorrect dimensions, or other issues.
• Check completed sewing work for stitch quality, alignment, dimensions, strength, appearance, and overall workmanship.
• Identify and correct loose stitches, uneven seams, incorrect alignment, skipped stitches, and other sewing defects.
• Perform alterations, repairs, and rework on textile and PVC products when required.
• Maintain consistent sewing quality when working on large, heavy, or complex fabric assemblies.
• Use relevant hand tools and workshop equipment safely and effectively.
• Carry out routine cleaning and basic maintenance of industrial sewing machines and related equipment.
• Replace or report worn needles, threads, machine components, and other equipment requiring attention.
• Maintain an organized workflow to meet production targets and required completion schedules.
• Minimize material waste through accurate measuring, cutting, pattern placement, and efficient production methods.
• Coordinate with supervisors, fabricators, designers, and other workshop personnel regarding production requirements.
• Report technical issues, material shortages, equipment problems, and design or measurement concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
• Follow approved production procedures, quality standards, and technical specifications.
• Maintain proper housekeeping in the sewing and fabrication work area.
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures when operating industrial sewing machinery and handling heavy-duty materials.
• Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain safe working practices.
• Perform other sewing, fabrication, assembly, repair, and workshop duties assigned by management.
