Otak International is seeking an experienced Irrigation Engineer – Design to lead and support the planning, design, analysis, and development of irrigation infrastructure projects in the United Arab Emirates. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in irrigation master planning, hydraulic modelling, network analysis, GIS-based asset management, demand forecasting, and design management within engineering consultancy environments.
IRRIGATION ENGINEER – DESIGN
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Agriculture.
- Minimum of 10 years of overall professional experience in irrigation engineering, water infrastructure, irrigation planning, or a related field.
- Extensive design management experience within engineering consultancy firms.
- Proven experience in irrigation master planning and strategic network planning.
- Strong experience in hydraulic modelling and network analysis using WaterGEMS, EPANET, or equivalent software.
- Experience in GIS-based irrigation asset management and spatial data integration.
- Strong knowledge of irrigation network planning, hydraulic principles, water demand, network capacity, and system performance.
- Proven experience in demand forecasting and future network capacity assessments.
- Ability to develop, review, interpret, and validate hydraulic models, engineering calculations, drawings, and technical reports.
- Strong understanding of irrigation infrastructure design, network optimization, system expansion, and asset management.
- Knowledge of applicable UAE irrigation, water infrastructure, engineering standards, and authority requirements.
- UAE experience is mandatory.
- Strong analytical, technical, problem-solving, and design management skills.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills when working with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, consultants, and authorities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple design activities and project deliverables.
- Ability to work independently and provide sound engineering judgment on complex irrigation planning and design matters.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the design and planning of irrigation networks and infrastructure systems for large-scale projects.
- Develop irrigation master plans and strategic network plans based on current and future water requirements.
- Conduct hydraulic modelling and network analysis using WaterGEMS, EPANET, or equivalent hydraulic modelling software.
- Assess existing irrigation networks to identify capacity limitations, operational issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop hydraulic models to evaluate network performance, pressure, flow, demand, and system capacity.
- Prepare and review irrigation network layouts, hydraulic calculations, design reports, technical specifications, and related engineering documentation.
- Conduct demand forecasting to determine current and future irrigation water requirements.
- Assess future network capacity and recommend system upgrades, expansions, and improvements.
- Develop design strategies that optimize irrigation network efficiency, reliability, capacity, and long-term performance.
- Integrate GIS data with irrigation asset information to support GIS-based asset management and spatial analysis.
- Review and validate spatial data, asset inventories, network information, and GIS-based irrigation infrastructure records.
- Coordinate irrigation design activities with civil, infrastructure, landscape, utilities, and other engineering disciplines.
- Review engineering designs, technical submissions, calculations, specifications, and drawings for accuracy and compliance.
- Manage design deliverables and ensure that engineering outputs meet project requirements, quality standards, and agreed schedules.
- Coordinate with clients, project managers, consultants, contractors, utility providers, and relevant authorities on irrigation design matters.
- Provide technical advice and engineering recommendations related to irrigation systems, network planning, and hydraulic performance.
- Identify design risks, technical constraints, and potential network deficiencies and develop appropriate mitigation measures.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable UAE standards, regulations, authority requirements, and relevant irrigation guidelines.
- Support technical meetings, design reviews, workshops, and presentations with clients and stakeholders.
- Monitor design progress, coordinate technical inputs, and ensure timely completion of project deliverables.
- Maintain accurate design records, hydraulic models, GIS data, calculations, reports, drawings, and technical documentation.
