Otak International is seeking an experienced Senior Storm Water Design Engineer to lead and support the planning, analysis, and design of storm water drainage and flood management systems in the United Arab Emirates. The successful candidate will be responsible for hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, storm water network design, technical documentation, design coordination, and ensuring that project solutions meet applicable engineering standards and authority requirements.
SENIOR STORM WATER DESIGN ENGINEER
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in storm water design, preferably within an engineering consultancy.
- Strong experience in storm water drainage design and hydraulic/hydrologic analysis.
- Proficiency in Civil 3D, StormCAD, SewerGEMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, or equivalent software.
- Strong knowledge of storm water drainage principles, rainfall-runoff analysis, hydraulic modelling, drainage networks, and flood assessment.
- Experience preparing hydraulic calculations, drainage layouts, profiles, technical reports, and engineering design documentation.
- Ability to analyze existing and proposed drainage systems and develop practical solutions for capacity and flood management requirements.
- Knowledge of UAE design standards and local authority requirements is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of civil infrastructure design and coordination with roads, utilities, grading, and other engineering disciplines.
- Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to review complex engineering designs and calculations.
- Good communication and coordination skills with clients, consultants, contractors, authorities, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Ability to lead design activities, manage technical deliverables, and provide guidance to junior engineers.
- Ability to work independently while effectively contributing to a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the design of storm water drainage systems for infrastructure, urban development, and other civil engineering projects.
- Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to assess storm water runoff, drainage capacity, flood risks, and network performance.
- Develop storm water drainage strategies and design solutions based on project requirements, site conditions, and applicable standards.
- Prepare and review storm water drainage layouts, profiles, hydraulic calculations, design reports, specifications, and technical drawings.
- Develop and analyze drainage networks, including pipes, channels, culverts, manholes, catch basins, outfalls, and associated structures.
- Perform rainfall-runoff analysis and evaluate storm water flows for different design return periods.
- Use engineering software such as Civil 3D, StormCAD, SewerGEMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, or equivalent platforms for design and modelling.
- Develop and review hydraulic and hydrologic models to verify drainage system capacity and performance.
- Assess existing drainage systems and identify deficiencies, capacity constraints, flood-prone areas, and required improvements.
- Prepare recommendations for drainage upgrades, network extensions, flood mitigation, and storm water management.
- Review topographic surveys, site information, utility data, hydrological information, and other technical inputs required for drainage design.
- Coordinate storm water design with roads, utilities, grading, landscape, structures, and other civil and infrastructure disciplines.
- Review engineering drawings, technical submissions, calculations, specifications, and design deliverables for accuracy and compliance.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and other members of the design team.
- Coordinate with project managers, clients, consultants, contractors, and relevant authorities on storm water design requirements.
- Support design reviews, technical meetings, workshops, presentations, and client discussions.
- Ensure storm water designs comply with applicable UAE design standards, regulations, and local authority requirements.
- Identify design risks, technical constraints, and constructability issues and recommend appropriate engineering solutions.
- Monitor design progress and ensure technical deliverables are completed within agreed project schedules.
- Maintain accurate hydraulic models, calculations, drawings, reports, technical records, and design documentation.
- Support construction teams by providing technical clarification and resolving storm water design-related issues when required.
