Alduco Engineering Services is seeking a highly experienced Senior Protection Relay Technician to support the Onshore Electrical Turnaround (TAR) 2026 project in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing advanced protection relay testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and verification of electrical protection systems to ensure the safe and reliable operation of critical power distribution assets.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on experience with the SEL (Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories) relay family, secondary injection testing, generator and transformer protection, feeder and line protection, power management systems, and protection coordination studies within Oil & Gas, utility, or industrial power system environments.
PROTECTION RELAY TECHNICIAN (SENIOR)
Qualifications:
- City & Guilds, Higher National Diploma (HND), Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineering, or an equivalent national qualification.
- Dual Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) background is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in protection relay testing and commissioning.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience working with the SEL protection relay family.
- Proven experience in Oil & Gas, Utilities, or Power System environments.
- Extensive knowledge of generator, transformer, feeder, line, and bus protection schemes.
- Proficiency in AcSELerator QuickSet, secondary injection testing equipment, relay configuration, and protection coordination.
- Strong understanding of electrical single-line diagrams, protection logic, relay settings, and commissioning procedures.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and fault-diagnosis skills.
- Ability to prepare accurate technical reports and quality documentation.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and mentoring skills.

- Perform secondary injection testing of SEL-700G Generator Protection Relays, including verification of protection elements:
- 27 (Undervoltage)
- 59 (Overvoltage)
- 81U/O (Under/Over Frequency)
- 32 (Reverse Power)
- 40 (Loss of Excitation)
- 46 (Negative Sequence)
- 47 (Phase Sequence)
- 51V (Voltage-Restrained Overcurrent)
- 87G (Generator Differential)
- 78 (Out-of-Step Protection)
64F (Field Ground Protection)
- Perform percentage-biased differential and harmonic restraint testing on SEL-787 relays for power and distribution transformers.
Conduct feeder protection testing on SEL-751A relays, including:- 50 (Instantaneous Overcurrent)
- 50G (Ground Fault)
- 51 (Time Overcurrent)
- 51N (Neutral Overcurrent)
- 67 (Directional Overcurrent)
- 27 (Undervoltage)
- 59 (Overvoltage)
- 81U/O (Frequency Protection)
- 79 (Auto Reclosing)
- 25 and 25A (Synchronism Check)
- Perform line protection testing on SEL-451 relays, including distance protection and line differential functions where applicable.
- Conduct bus differential and high-impedance bus protection testing using SEL-587Z relays.
- Perform functional and integration testing of SEL-2440 Power Management System (PMS) I/O Modules, including:
- Load-shedding schemes
- Fast load-shedding functions
- Generator capability verification
- Download, upload, configure, and verify relay settings using AcSELerator QuickSet software.
- Compare relay settings with the client’s protection coordination studies and identify discrepancies.
- Verify trip circuits, lockout outputs, and breaker control logic to ensure proper system operation.
- Complete Test Quality Forms (TQFs), commissioning reports, and testing documentation in accordance with the project Quality Plan.
- Submit daily progress reports to the Lead Electrical Engineer.
- Immediately escalate protection setting discrepancies, coordination issues, or abnormal test results.
- Support project close-out by preparing:
- Test Records
- Manufacturer Records of Maintenance (MOM)
- Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), when required
- Ensure all testing activities comply with project specifications, client requirements, and international electrical standards.
- Maintain strict compliance with company Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedures.
