Aureol Global Connections is seeking a highly experienced Engineering Manager specializing in high-voltage (HV) substation projects to support the delivery of major UK Transmission network developments. The role involves leading multidisciplinary engineering design delivery for 132kV, 275kV, and 400kV substation new builds and extensions, ensuring compliance with UK regulatory and client requirements.
Engineering Manager (Substation)
Qualifications:
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary design packages on HV power projects
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) with strong high-voltage project design experience
- Experience acting as Principal Designer Representative under CDM 2015 Regulations
- Membership of a recognized UK engineering institution (e.g., IET or equivalent)
- Experience delivering substation projects for UK Transmission System Operators such as SSEN, National Grid, ScottishPower Energy Networks, or NIE Networks
- Strong understanding of engineering consultancy contracts and design delivery frameworks
Responsibilities:
- Lead engineering design delivery for major transmission substation projects (132kV / 275kV / 400kV new build and extension works)
- Manage design activities during tender, Early Contractor Engagement, FEED, and detailed design stages
- Coordinate and integrate multidisciplinary engineering teams including HV Plant, Protection & Control, and Civils from internal teams, external designers, and OEMs
- Act as Principal Design Representative, ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 Regulations and proper management of design information across all project roles
- Support development of continuous improvement initiatives within the Design Management function
- Review design submissions for technical compliance, quality, and completeness
- Support project planners in developing and maintaining engineering and design programmes
- Monitor engineering progress and coordinate procurement of services and equipment with the procurement team
- Liaise with Temporary Works Coordinators and designers to ensure constructability and integration of permanent works
- Manage and influence design consultant contracts, including scope, fees, schedules, programme, liabilities, and warranties
- Review consultant payment applications and coordinate with commercial teams for processing and approval
