Michishitagumi Co. Ltd. is hiring qualified Shipyard Painters under Japan’s Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) program. The role involves surface preparation and protective coating application on ship components and structures to ensure corrosion resistance, durability, and compliance with shipbuilding quality standards.

SHIPYARD PAINTER (SSW)

Qualifications:

  • Must have completed a 3 to 5-year Technical Intern Training Program (TITP) in Japan in the same position (Shipyard Painter).
  • Must have passed Level 3 or the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) Skills Test.
  • Physically fit and capable of working in shipyard environments.
  • Willing to work in outdoor, industrial, and sometimes confined spaces.
  • Strong understanding of painting techniques and surface preparation.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare metal surfaces for painting through cleaning, sanding, blasting, or other surface treatment methods.
  • Apply primers, coatings, and finishing paints on ship hulls, structures, and components.
  • Inspect painted surfaces to ensure proper coverage, thickness, and finish quality.
  • Mix paints and coatings according to specified technical requirements.
  • Perform touch-ups and corrective painting as required.
  • Follow shipyard safety procedures, especially when working in confined or elevated areas.
  • Maintain painting tools, equipment, and work area cleanliness.
  • Comply with all Japanese shipyard quality and safety standards.
