Processing Maintenance Manager
Qualifications:
- Bachelors in engineering or equivalent – preferably licensed
- Must have a tertiary qualification from a recognized institution.
- Strong mechanical and/or electrical maintenance knowledge
- HACCP, GMP and food-processing hygiene requirements
- Ability to write training manuals and conduct workshops
- Good command of the English language and a willingness to learn the local language
- Poultry processing, meat processing, food manufacturing or a similar high-throuput processing environment.
- At least 5 years work experience in
a management role - Supervising maintenance personnel
- Preventative maintenance systems
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety
- A mature, responsible and energetic character with the ability to solve issues systematically
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical repair skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Effective management skills and a team player. Required to organise, lead and motivate the maintenance team to perform at their best
- Prepared to work and live in a rural environment
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for ensuring the safe, reliant and efficient operation of all plant, machinery, equipment, utilities, infrastructure and people within the Zenag processing plant
- The position manages preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime, maintain productive
efficiencies, ensure food-safety requirements and met / extend the service life of the plant and equipment. - Live bird handling and receiving systems
- Stunning and slaughter equipment
- Scalders and defeathering machines and Carcass chilling systems
- Evisceration and giblet-processing equipment
- Cut—up and portioning equipment and conveyors. Elevators and packaging equipment
- Weighing, labelling and metal-detection equipment
- Waste-handling equipment and cleaning and sanitation equipment
- Ensure electrical, Mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems are maintained to required standards
- Coordinate electrical inspections, testing and repairs
- Monitor motors, gearboxes, pumps, bearings, drives and control systems
- Ensure critical machinery is correctly lubricated and serviced
- Maintain PLC.s sensors, instrumentation and automated control systems where applicable
- Ensure equipment guards and safety devices remain functional
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with food-safety and hygiene standards
- Prevent maintenance activities from creating contamination risks
- Ensure tools, lubricants, parts and equipment used in production areas are suitable for the application
- Coordinate with QA/Food Safety personnel before and after maintenance work in production areas
- Ensure maintenance areas and equipment are properly cleaned following maintenance activities
- Support HACCP, GMP and food-safety audits
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the maintenance department
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements
- Ensure safe isolation of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, steam and refrigeration systems
- Conduct risk assessments and job safety analysis for maintenance work.
- Ensure maintenance personnel use appropriate PPE
- Investigate maintenance-related incidents and implement corrective actions
- Ensure safe handling and disposal of oils
- Lead, train and develop the maintenance team
- Allocate work according to skills, priorities and production requirements
- Establish maintenance standards and performance expectations
- Conduct toolbox meetings and maintenance planning meetings
- Monitor staff performance and attendance
- Identify training and competency requirement
- Promote teamwork between maintenance, Production, QC, stores and other departments.
- Prepare and manage maintenance department budget
- Control expenditure on spare parts, contractors, service and equipment
- Obtain quotations and evaluate maintenance-related purchases
- Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance costs without compromising safety, quality or reliability
- Monitor maintenance cost per production unit where appropriate
- Develop capital expenditure proposals for equipment replacement and plant improvements
- Any other duties requested by management and develop and implement an affective preventative and planned maintenance program Schedule
daily, weekly, monthly and annual maintenance activities - Ensure all production equipment is maintained in safe and reliable operating condition and respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and
production emergencies - Analyse recurring equipment failures and implement permanent corrective actions and maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment
histories and job reports - Establish critical spare parts requirements and maintain appropriate stock levels and manage contractors and specialist service provider
