Bundaberg Sugar Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Boilermaker (Cane Supply) to join its operations in Australia. The successful candidate will be responsible for heavy fabrication, welding, structural repairs, and maintenance of mobile and rail equipment used in cane supply operations. The role requires strong welding skills, experience with heavy equipment fabrication and repair, and the ability to work safely in an industrial sugarcane environment.
BOILERMAKER (CANE SUPPLY)
Qualifications:
- Graduate of Welding, Metal Fabrication, or a related technical program.
- Holds a recognized Boilermaker or Metal Fabricator qualification.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant boilermaking experience, with 7–10 years preferred.
- Strong MIG and stick welding skills.
- Proven experience in heavy fabrication and repair of mobile and rail equipment.
- Experience with rail wagons, cane bins, locomotives, or similar heavy equipment is preferred.
- Experience with RHS and cast steel welding is an advantage.
- Skilled in the use of hard-facing wire and low-hydrogen electrodes.
- Strong experience in frame and structural repair, straightening, and fabrication.
- HPCO experience is preferred.
- Forklift operating experience or certification is an advantage.
- Experience operating or working with 8-tonne trucks is an advantage.
- Physically fit and capable of performing heavy fabrication, welding, repair, and maintenance work.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality workmanship.
- Ability to work safely in an industrial and sugarcane operating environment.
- Good teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is an advantage.
Responsibilities:
- Perform welding, fabrication, repair, and maintenance work on cane supply equipment and related structures.
- Carry out heavy fabrication and repair of mobile and rail equipment, including rail wagons, cane bins, locomotives, and similar equipment.
- Perform MIG and stick welding on heavy steel components and equipment.
- Fabricate, repair, reinforce, and modify frames, structural components, brackets, supports, and other steelwork.
- Carry out structural repairs and equipment straightening to restore damaged components to safe operating condition.
- Weld and repair RHS (Rectangular Hollow Section) steel components and structural members.
- Perform welding and repair work on cast steel components where required.
- Apply hard-facing wire and low-hydrogen electrodes for appropriate repair and wear-resistant applications.
- Inspect damaged or worn equipment and determine appropriate welding, fabrication, and repair methods.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, fabrication plans, measurements, and welding requirements.
- Use welding machines, cutting equipment, grinders, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment safely and correctly.
- Conduct cutting, fitting, grinding, drilling, shaping, and other metal fabrication processes.
- Assist with planned maintenance, shutdown work, and urgent repairs during cane supply operations.
- Perform repairs in accordance with workplace safety requirements and established engineering and fabrication standards.
- Inspect completed welds and fabricated components to ensure proper strength, alignment, fit, and workmanship.
- Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
- Follow appropriate procedures for handling, lifting, positioning, and securing heavy equipment and steel components.
- Coordinate with mechanics, maintenance personnel, supervisors, and other trades during repair and fabrication activities.
- Operate or assist with material-handling equipment when appropriately licensed or authorized.
- Maintain a strong focus on workplace safety, environmental requirements, and quality standards at all times.
