Bundaberg Sugar Ltd is seeking a qualified and experienced Boilermaker (Refinery) to join its sugar refinery and industrial maintenance operations in Australia. The successful candidate will be responsible for metal fabrication, welding, pipework fabrication and installation, structural steelwork, tanks, vessels, and repair of refinery and sugar mill components. The role requires strong welding and fabrication skills, particularly in stainless-steel pipework, along with the ability to work safely in a demanding industrial environment.

BOILERMAKER (REFINERY)

Qualifications:

• Graduate of Welding, Metal Fabrication, or a related technical program.
• Boilermaker or Metal Fabricator qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant boilermaking and metal fabrication experience.
• Strong practical experience in industrial fabrication, refinery maintenance, sugar milling, or heavy industry.
• Strong TIG welding skills, particularly with stainless-steel pipework.
• Proven experience in MIG welding and stainless-steel fabrication.
• Skilled in pipework measurement, fabrication, repair, modification, and installation.
• Experience fabricating and repairing structural steel, machine components, tanks, vessels, supports, and process equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and technical specifications.
• Pressure-welding certification is preferred.
• Experience with sugar industry employers or facilities such as VMC, Busco, URC-SONEDCO, BISCOM, or Lopez Sugar Corporation is preferred.
• Rigging experience or qualification is preferred.
• Dogging experience is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of welding safety, hot-work procedures, equipment isolation, and industrial workplace safety.
• Ability to safely operate welding machines, cutting equipment, grinders, drills, and other fabrication tools.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Physically fit and capable of performing demanding hands-on work in a sugar refinery environment.
• Willing to work during planned maintenance shutdowns and perform Sunday maintenance work when required.
• Able to work effectively with engineers, fitters, maintenance personnel, operators, and other trades.
• Reliable, hardworking, safety-conscious, and able to follow technical instructions and workplace procedures.
• IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is an advantage.

Responsibilities:

• Perform boilermaking, metal fabrication, welding, repair, and installation work within the sugar refinery and mill environment.
• Fabricate, repair, modify, and install stainless-steel and carbon-steel pipework according to drawings and specifications.
• Perform high-quality TIG welding, particularly on stainless-steel pipework and process equipment.
• Perform MIG welding and other appropriate welding processes for fabrication and repair work.
• Measure, mark, cut, form, fit, tack, weld, and finish metal components accurately.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, specifications, and technical instructions.
• Fabricate and repair structural steel components, machine components, brackets, supports, frames, and other metalwork.
• Fabricate, repair, and modify tanks, vessels, chutes, hoppers, guards, and other refinery equipment.
• Perform pipework measurement, fabrication, repair, replacement, and installation.
• Inspect fabricated components and welded joints to ensure dimensional accuracy and required quality standards.
• Prepare surfaces and materials for welding and fabrication, including cutting, grinding, cleaning, and edge preparation.
• Conduct welding repairs on damaged or worn refinery and sugar mill components.
• Assist with maintenance and repair of process equipment, conveyors, pipe systems, pressure equipment, and other plant components.
• Carry out fabrication and repair work during planned maintenance shutdowns and scheduled refinery maintenance activities.
• Use appropriate welding machines, cutting equipment, grinders, drills, hand tools, and fabrication machinery safely.
• Perform oxy-cutting and other approved thermal cutting processes where required.
• Assist with the installation, alignment, positioning, and securing of fabricated components and pipework.
• Perform dimensional checks and ensure fabricated components meet engineering specifications and tolerances.
• Work with maintenance fitters, engineers, operators, and other trades personnel to complete fabrication and repair activities.
• Participate in planned Sunday maintenance activities when required by production and maintenance schedules.
• Use rigging and lifting equipment safely when positioning and installing heavy fabricated components.
• Follow approved rigging, lifting, dogging, welding, and fabrication procedures.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation related to fabrication, repairs, inspections, and maintenance work.
• Follow workplace health and safety, environmental, hot-work, isolation, and permit-to-work procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fabrication and work area.
• Inspect tools and equipment before use and report defective equipment or unsafe conditions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve plant reliability, fabrication quality, safety, and maintenance efficiency.
• Perform other boilermaking, welding, fabrication, and refinery maintenance duties as assigned.
