HVAC Lead Technician
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 year(s) of working experience is required.
- Candidates must be at least a high school graduate.
- 10+ years of relevant HVAC maintenance experience, with demonstrated technical competency and experience supporting industrial HVAC
systems. - Twelfth grade (12) secondary education or equivalent certificate, preferably enhanced by technical school and/or university courses
- Electrical trade qualification or license is highly desirable but not required
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a diverse, multicultural, and multinational workforce.
- Demonstrated leadership in mentoring, coaching, and sharing technical knowledge to support team capability and performance.
- Strong knowledge of industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems and associated equipment.
- Advanced troubleshooting and fault-finding capability across mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, control diagrams, technical drawings, and equipment documentation.
- Strong knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance practices and equipment reliability principles.
- Working knowledge of HVAC controls, instrumentation, and building management systems.
- Knowledge of applicable HVAC industry standards, refrigerant requirements, and safe maintenance practices.
- Strong leadership, work coordination, and prioritization skills.
- Effective problem-solving, decision-making, and sound judgment.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and develop technician capability.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple disciplines.
- Effective work management and SAP/IPES skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work safely and efficiently with limited supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate daily activities of HVAC technicians, including work allocation, prioritization, scheduling, and monitoring of work progress.
- Provide field leadership to ensure HVAC maintenance activities are performed safely and in accordance with company safety requirements,
procedures, permits, and established work practices. - Review planned HVAC work and ensured appropriate labor, materials, tools, technical documentation, permits, and resources are available prior to execution.
- HVAC Lead is responsible for ensuring that the HVAC equipment on site is kept in a safe, functional, operating condition.
- Coordinate HVAC maintenance activities with Operations, Maintenance, Planning, Engineering, and other disciplines as required.
- Provide technical leadership and troubleshooting support for complex HVAC equipment and system failures.
- Lead and support preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities for HVAC systems serving process, utility, electrical, control,
administration, and occupied facilities. - Ensure maintenance activities are properly documented and work orders are accurately completed and closed within SAP / IPES.
- Provide technical coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job training to HVAC technicians.
- Assess technician competency and identify individual and team development needs.
- Verify work quality and ensure completed maintenance meets applicable company, manufacturer, engineering, and industry standards.
- Promote strong housekeeping, tool control, material management, and stewardship of HVAC work areas.
- Support development and review of maintenance procedures, job plans, preventive maintenance routines, technical documentation, and
equipment strategies. - Participate in toolbox meetings, job safety assessments, risk assessments, incident investigations, and other safety and maintenance
improvement activities. - Provide clear shift/rotation handovers identifying equipment status, outstanding work, operational risks, and priority activities.
- Demonstrate strong leadership behaviors by setting clear expectations, holding personnel accountable, encouraging teamwork, developing
personnel, and leading by example.
