Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or in a similar maintenance role.
  • Vocational Diploma, Technical Certificate, or equivalent qualification in Heavy Equipment Maintenance, Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology, or Mechanical Engineering is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, electrical systems, and heavy equipment components.
  • Skilled in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, hydraulic diagrams, and technical drawings.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and heavy equipment safety procedures.
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting heavy components and working in demanding environments.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, cranes, forklifts, dump trucks, and other construction machinery.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including lubrication, oil changes, filter replacement, and scheduled equipment servicing.
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, steering, braking, suspension, and electrical systems.
  • Use diagnostic equipment and technical manuals to identify equipment faults and recommend appropriate repairs.
  • Replace or repair worn and damaged mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical components.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure equipment complies with safety and operational standards.
  • Test equipment after repairs to verify proper performance and safe operation.
  • Maintain accurate service records, repair reports, and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to reduce breakdowns and extend equipment life.
  • Maintain workshop tools, diagnostic equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
  • Follow company safety policies and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and equipment operators regarding maintenance schedules and repair priorities.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize operational downtime.
  • Perform other mechanical maintenance duties assigned by management.
