Automotive Mechanic

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an Automotive Mechanic or in a similar vehicle maintenance role.
  • Vocational Diploma, Technical Certificate, or equivalent qualification in Automotive Technology or Mechanical Engineering is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine systems, transmissions, suspension, brakes, steering, and electrical systems.
  • Skilled in using automotive diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and workshop machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, service guides, and repair diagrams.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and vehicle inspection procedures.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing demanding mechanical work.
  • Responsible, detail-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults using appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacement, lubrication, tire rotation, and scheduled servicing.
  • Inspect, repair, and replace defective engine, transmission, suspension, steering, braking, cooling, fuel, and exhaust system components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair vehicle electrical systems, including batteries, alternators, starters, lighting, and wiring.
  • Conduct engine tune-ups and ensure vehicles meet performance and safety standards.
  • Perform brake inspections, repairs, wheel alignments, and suspension maintenance.
  • Repair and maintain manual and automatic transmission systems when required.
  • Inspect vehicles to identify potential mechanical issues and recommend necessary repairs.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair reports, and service schedules.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and the workshop are clean, organized, and properly maintained.
  • Follow company safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) during maintenance activities.
  • Test-drive vehicles after repairs to verify proper operation and customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with supervisors regarding spare parts requirements and repair priorities.
  • Perform other mechanical maintenance duties assigned by management.
