DESCON Engineering is seeking experienced Gas Fitters (WSP / Hole Watchers / Fire Watchers) to support construction, maintenance, shutdown, and turnaround projects in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Refinery, and Heavy Industry sectors. The successful candidates will play a critical role in maintaining workplace safety by monitoring confined space entry activities and hot work operations, ensuring compliance with permit-to-work procedures, and responding promptly to emergency situations.
GAS FITTER (WSP / HOLE WATCHER / FIRE WATCHER)
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2 years of working experience is required.
- Candidates must be at least a High School Graduate.
- Experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Refinery, or Heavy Industry is mandatory.
- Proven experience as a Hole Watcher, Confined Space Attendant, Fire Watcher, or Worksite Safety Personnel (WSP) in industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of confined space entry procedures, hot work permits, hazard identification, and emergency response protocols.
- Familiarity with gas monitoring equipment, permit-to-work systems, and industrial safety regulations.
- Ability to remain alert and maintain continuous observation throughout confined space and hot work activities.
- Strong understanding of occupational health and safety practices in high-risk industrial environments.
- Good communication skills in English or Arabic.
- Physically fit and able to work in demanding industrial and construction environments.
- Able to work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Male applicants are preferred for this role.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Hole Watcher (Confined Space Attendant) by remaining stationed outside permit-required confined spaces and continuously monitoring personnel working inside.
- Maintain constant communication with workers inside confined spaces and initiate emergency response procedures when necessary.
- Verify that confined space entry permits, gas test results, and safety requirements are completed before entry.
- Prevent unauthorized personnel from entering restricted work areas.
- Perform the duties of a Fire Watcher during welding, cutting, grinding, and other hot work activities.
- Monitor work areas for fire hazards and ensure fire extinguishers and emergency equipment are readily available and operational.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, hazardous atmospheres, equipment malfunctions, or incidents to supervisors.
- Assist in monitoring gas detection equipment and ensure atmospheric testing requirements are maintained throughout confined space operations.
- Support compliance with company safety policies, permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and emergency procedures.
- Coordinate closely with supervisors, safety officers, gas testers, crane operators, and maintenance personnel to ensure safe work execution.
- Maintain accurate records of confined space monitoring and hot work activities as required.
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, emergency drills, and other site safety programs.
