OAK Offshore is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator for an overseas employment opportunity in Tuvalu. The successful candidate will operate excavators ranging from 5 to 50 tons for foundation works, trenching, bulk excavation, reef excavation, channel creation, and marine construction activities while maintaining high standards of safety, productivity, and equipment care.
EXCAVATOR OPERATOR
Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or Vocational Graduate.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as an Excavator Operator.
- Proven ability to operate excavators from 5T to 50T.
- Experience in foundation excavation, trenching, bulk excavation, or similar construction work.
- Experience with marine excavation, reef excavation, or channel creation is highly advantageous.
- Experience working around barges, lighter vessels, or offshore construction environments is an advantage.
- Ability to safely load and unload materials in marine or offshore conditions.
- Experience operating heavy equipment in challenging weather and site conditions.
- GPS or machine guidance system experience is preferred but not essential.
- Knowledge of daily equipment inspections and basic heavy equipment maintenance.
- Strong understanding of construction site and heavy equipment safety procedures.
- Physically fit and capable of working in offshore conditions.
- Able to work effectively around water and marine construction activities.
- Tolerance for seasickness and ability to work in offshore conditions is important.
- Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently.
Responsibilities:
- Operate excavators ranging from 5T to 50T for various construction and marine activities.
- Perform excavation for foundations, trenches, channels, and other construction requirements.
- Conduct bulk excavation and earthmoving operations according to project plans and site instructions.
- Perform reef excavation and channel creation in marine and offshore environments.
- Load, unload, move, and position materials safely using excavators and approved lifting or handling procedures.
- Transfer materials between barges and lighter vessels with an approximate 10-ton capacity, as required.
- Operate heavy equipment safely in offshore and marine construction conditions.
- Follow excavation plans, site drawings, work instructions, and designated excavation levels.
- Monitor ground and marine conditions while operating equipment.
- Maintain proper control of the excavator when working near water, vessels, structures, and other equipment.
- Perform daily pre-operation inspections and basic equipment checks.
- Check hydraulic systems, tracks, attachments, fluid levels, controls, and other key components before operation.
- Report mechanical problems, equipment defects, leaks, or safety concerns immediately to the supervisor.
- Maintain the excavator in clean and safe operating condition.
- Use appropriate attachments and equipment according to the assigned excavation task.
- Follow safe operating distances and established procedures when working around other personnel and machinery.
- Coordinate with supervisors, surveyors, marine crews, construction workers, and other equipment operators.
- Follow all company health, safety, environmental, and marine work procedures.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Maintain accurate equipment inspection and operational records when required.
- Perform other heavy equipment operation duties as assigned.
