Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in food preparation, cooking, or restaurant operations.
- At least 12 months of work experience as a Cook in a reputable food service or restaurant establishment.
- Must be a Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate holder in a relevant field or similar qualification.
High school diploma is required. - Proven ability to perform food preparation and cooking activities in a dining or fast-food restaurant.
- Knowledge of food preparation methods, cooking techniques, portioning, and food presentation.
- Ability to direct and supervise food preparation and cooking activities when required.
- Knowledge of menu planning and the ability to review food purchases according to restaurant requirements.
- Ability to forecast food preparation needs based on changes in customer or guest flow.
- Knowledge of inventory management methods appropriate for restaurant operations.
- Familiarity with food quality control, ingredient inspection, and proper food storage practices.
- Knowledge of nutrition, sanitation, food safety, and workplace safety standards, including applicable USDA-prescribed standards.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with food service staff and work as part of a professional kitchen team.
- Good organizational, communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Able to follow company policies, instructions, and safety procedures.
- Willing to stay updated with current cooking, food service, and restaurant industry practices.
Responsibilities:
- Perform assigned cooking and food preparation duties efficiently and complete tasks within required timeframes.
- Prepare, cook, portion, and present food items according to established recipes, menu specifications, and quality standards.
- Direct and supervise food preparation and cooking activities when assigned.
- Assist chefs, caterers, and other kitchen personnel with food and beverage preparation.
- Check the quality, freshness, appearance, and proper handling of food ingredients and prepared products.
- Inspect kitchen facilities, cooking equipment, utensils, and supplies to ensure they meet required standards.
- Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, kitchen facilities, equipment, utensils, and workstations.
- Coordinate activities with food service staff to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations.
- Monitor food preparation progress and communicate updates, concerns, and operational issues to supervisors or management.
- Estimate the quantities of ingredients, supplies, equipment, and staffing needed for daily food preparation activities.
- Monitor ingredient consumption and assist in maintaining sufficient supplies for continuous restaurant operations.
- Assist with ordering food ingredients, materials, supplies, and kitchen equipment as required.
- Review food purchases and help ensure ingredients are sourced and maintained according to restaurant requirements.
- Assist in menu planning and development based on customer demand, available ingredients, and restaurant requirements.
- Forecast food preparation requirements based on increases or decreases in customer and guest volume.
- Develop and maintain practical inventory methods based on the needs of the restaurant or food service operation.
- Monitor food storage and ensure proper labeling, handling, rotation, and preservation of ingredients.
- Follow established nutrition, sanitation, food safety, and workplace safety standards.
- Maintain proper personal hygiene and safe food-handling practices at all times.
- Keep the kitchen organized and ensure cooking tools and equipment are used safely and properly.
- Stay updated on current food service, cooking, sanitation, and restaurant industry practices.
- Follow company policies, procedures, operational standards, and safety guidelines.
- Coordinate effectively with supervisors and team members to maintain efficient restaurant service.
