Franklin Smith Limited is seeking experienced Civil Drain Layers to join its civil construction team in New Zealand. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining underground drainage systems for infrastructure and civil works projects while ensuring compliance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and workplace safety regulations.

Civil Drain Layer

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Civil Drain Layer, with expertise in deep drainage, concrete pipe installation, PVC pipe installation, and plan reading.
• At least 3 years of overseas work experience is preferred.
• Strong English communication skills, both spoken and written.
• Thorough knowledge of civil drainage construction methods and safety procedures.
• Physically fit and capable of performing labor-intensive work in outdoor construction environments.
• Safety-focused with a strong commitment to following workplace health and safety standards.

Responsibilities:

• Install deep drainage systems, including concrete and PVC pipes, in accordance with approved plans and project specifications.
• Perform excavation, pipe laying, bedding, jointing, backfilling, and compaction for civil drainage works.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, drainage plans, and engineering specifications to ensure accurate installation.
• Set out drainage lines, levels, and gradients to achieve proper system performance.
• Inspect drainage systems and perform repairs or modifications when required.
• Operate and work safely around excavation equipment and construction machinery.
• Ensure all drainage works comply with quality standards, environmental requirements, and health and safety regulations.
• Conduct routine site housekeeping and maintain a safe, organized work environment.
• Work collaboratively with supervisors, engineers, machine operators, and construction crews to complete projects on schedule.
