HULL & OUTFITTING TECHNICIAN

Qualifications:

• At least 8 years of experience in relevant marine and shipyard work.
• Proven experience in marine hull repair and shipyard maintenance activities.
• Strong experience in aluminum and steel welding.
• Practical experience using both TIG and MIG welding processes.
• Experience in marine fabrication and vessel outfitting.
• Familiarity with hull structural repair, fitting, fabrication, welding, and installation work.
• Familiarity with working in confined-space areas.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings, fabrication plans, measurements, and work instructions.
• Ability to perform accurate cutting, fitting, alignment, welding, grinding, and finishing of marine structures.
• Knowledge of safe operation of welding machines, cutting equipment, grinders, and related hand and power tools.
• Strong understanding of shipyard safety, hot-work procedures, and confined-space safety requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work effectively in demanding marine, shipyard, and industrial environments.
• Physically capable of performing strenuous fabrication, welding, repair, and outfitting activities.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with supervisors and other shipyard personnel.

Responsibilities:

• Perform repair, fabrication, installation, and maintenance work on marine vessel hulls and related structures.
• Conduct repairs on steel and aluminum hull structures and other marine components.
• Perform TIG and MIG welding on steel, aluminum, and other applicable materials.
• Prepare metal surfaces, plates, sections, and components for welding and fabrication.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, fabrication plans, measurements, and work instructions.
• Measure, mark, cut, shape, fit, align, and assemble steel and aluminum components according to specifications.
• Perform hull structural repairs, modifications, reinforcement, and replacement of damaged sections.
• Carry out marine fabrication and outfitting work in accordance with approved drawings and project requirements.
• Install and repair marine outfitting components, fittings, supports, brackets, and structural accessories.
• Conduct welding and fabrication activities during vessel repair, maintenance, conversion, and refurbishment projects.
• Inspect welded joints, fabricated structures, and installed components for proper alignment, fit, finish, and quality.
• Identify welding defects, structural damage, dimensional discrepancies, and other issues and perform appropriate corrective work.
• Use welding machines, cutting equipment, grinders, power tools, hand tools, and other fabrication equipment safely.
• Perform grinding, cutting, drilling, fitting, and finishing operations as required for hull and outfitting work.
• Work safely in confined spaces and follow all applicable confined-space entry and work procedures.
• Conduct appropriate preparation and safety checks before entering or performing work in confined areas.
• Follow hot-work procedures and precautions when performing welding, cutting, grinding, or other heat-producing activities.
• Maintain welding equipment, fabrication tools, and work areas in safe and serviceable condition.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), respiratory protection, and other required safety equipment.
• Maintain good housekeeping and ensure work areas are free from unnecessary hazards and obstructions.
• Coordinate with welders, shipfitters, mechanical and electrical technicians, supervisors, engineers, and other shipyard personnel.
• Maintain required work records, inspection reports, and documentation related to repair and fabrication activities.
• Report structural defects, equipment problems, unsafe conditions, and other concerns to the supervisor.
• Perform other hull repair, marine fabrication, outfitting, welding, and shipyard maintenance duties assigned by the supervisor.
