Committee Australia is seeking an experienced and highly skilled HD Mechanic (Heavy-Duty Mechanic) to join its team in Australia. This opportunity is ideal for qualified heavy vehicle mechanics with at least five years of experience working on trucks, trailers, and commercial fleet vehicles, with strong diagnostic, repair, and maintenance skills.

HD MECHANIC

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of proven experience working on heavy vehicles is required.
• Experience working with trucks, trailers, and commercial fleet vehicles.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, brake systems, electrical systems, transmissions, suspension systems, and hydraulic systems.
• Proven ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical faults accurately.
• Proficient in the use of diagnostic equipment, mechanical tools, testing instruments, and workshop equipment.
• Skilled in repairing and replacing components such as engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, hydraulic systems, and related heavy vehicle components.
• Good knowledge of preventive maintenance, servicing, inspection, troubleshooting, and heavy vehicle repair procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, service documentation, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer’s specifications.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship and vehicle safety.
• Physically fit and capable of lifting, bending, working underneath vehicles, and performing demanding mechanical tasks.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a workshop or fleet maintenance team.
• Reliable, safety-conscious, hardworking, and committed to completing repairs to a high professional standard.

Responsibilities:

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty vehicles, including trucks, trailers, and commercial fleet vehicles.
• Conduct scheduled servicing, preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs to keep vehicles safe, reliable, and operational.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and inspection procedures.
• Troubleshoot engine, transmission, braking, suspension, electrical, hydraulic, and other vehicle systems.
• Repair, overhaul, replace, and adjust defective components including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, hydraulic components, and related parts.
• Inspect and service diesel engines and associated fuel, cooling, lubrication, and exhaust systems.
• Diagnose and repair vehicle electrical systems, wiring, batteries, starting systems, charging systems, sensors, and related components.
• Inspect and maintain braking systems, including brake assemblies, air brake components, lines, valves, and related equipment.
• Inspect and repair suspension systems, steering components, axles, wheels, and other undercarriage components.
• Inspect and maintain hydraulic systems and components where applicable.
• Perform transmission inspections, servicing, repairs, adjustments, and component replacement as required.
• Conduct road tests and operational checks after repairs to verify vehicle performance, safety, and reliability.
• Identify worn, damaged, or defective parts and recommend appropriate repair or replacement solutions.
• Use mechanical tools, power tools, lifting equipment, diagnostic scanners, measuring instruments, and workshop equipment safely and correctly.
• Read and interpret service manuals, technical specifications, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer’s repair procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, servicing, parts replaced, diagnostic findings, and vehicle maintenance history.
• Communicate identified mechanical or electrical issues and repair requirements to supervisors or fleet management.
• Work efficiently to minimize vehicle downtime and support continuous fleet operations.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop and work area.
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ensure all repair and maintenance work meets required quality, safety, and industry standards.
• Perform other heavy vehicle maintenance, repair, inspection, and workshop duties assigned by management.
