UPHOLSTERER

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience as an Upholsterer, Furniture Upholsterer, Upholstery Craftsman, or in a similar role.
  • Must hold a Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Must have completed at least a 1-year vocational course or relevant upholstery/furniture trade training.
  • Strong knowledge of furniture construction, upholstery methods, stuffing, covering, and frame preparation techniques.
  • Experience working with fabric, leather, vinyl, foam, and upholstery accessories.
  • Proficient in operating industrial sewing machines, foam cutting machinery, spray adhesive equipment, staple guns, nail guns, and upholstery hand tools.
  • Skilled in furniture stripping, frame preparation, cutting, sewing, foam gluing, stapling, fitting, and finishing processes.
  • Experience in pattern matching, material alignment, and upholstery finishing techniques.
  • Good understanding of piping, zips, gimp braid, touch tapes, hidden fixings, and other upholstery accessories.
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Valid driver’s license is an advantage.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform upholstery work on residential, commercial, and custom furniture products.
  • Read and interpret work instructions, production drawings, measurements, and upholstery specifications.
  • Strip, repair, and prepare furniture frames for upholstery.
  • Measure, cut, and fit foam, fabric, leather, vinyl, and other upholstery materials accurately.
  • Operate industrial sewing machines, foam cutting equipment, spray adhesive systems, staple guns, nail guns, and upholstery hand tools safely and efficiently.
  • Perform sewing, stapling, foam gluing, fitting, finishing, and final assembly of upholstered products.
  • Match fabric patterns and ensure proper material alignment for custom furniture applications.
  • Install upholstery accessories including piping, zips, sliders, eyelets, touch tapes, press studs, hidden fixings, and decorative trims.
  • Inspect finished products to ensure compliance with company quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Perform routine cleaning, basic maintenance, and safe handling of workshop equipment and tools.
  • Report equipment faults, material defects, and workplace safety concerns promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while meeting production schedules and deadlines.
