Fiberglass Specialist

Qualifications:

• Must have three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in the marine industry.
• Must have relevant experience working on yachts, marine pleasure crafts, or similar marine vessels.
• Must have hands-on experience and technical knowledge relevant to the Fiberglass Specialist position.
• Practical experience in fiberglass repair, fabrication, laminating, molding, bonding, and finishing.
• Knowledge of fiberglass materials, resins, hardeners, fillers, gelcoat, and other composite materials.
• Ability to properly prepare damaged surfaces and perform high-quality fiberglass repairs.
• Ability to use fiberglass fabrication tools, hand tools, power tools, sanding equipment, and related workshop equipment.
• Must be able to follow technical instructions, repair specifications, and established work procedures.
• Must maintain quality workmanship, precision, and attention to detail.
• Must observe workplace safety procedures, including proper handling of fiberglass materials, resins, solvents, and chemicals.
• Physically fit and capable of performing hands-on work in a marine workshop and vessel environment.
• Must be able to work effectively as part of a team and coordinate with other marine technical personnel.
• Reliable, hardworking, responsible, and committed to maintaining high standards of marine repair and fabrication work.

Responsibilities:

• Perform fiberglass fabrication, repair, maintenance, and restoration work on yachts, marine pleasure crafts, and similar vessels.
• Inspect fiberglass hulls, decks, cabins, structural components, and other vessel areas for cracks, damage, delamination, and deterioration.
• Identify the extent of fiberglass damage and determine appropriate repair methods.
• Prepare damaged surfaces through cleaning, sanding, grinding, cutting, and removal of damaged materials.
• Measure, cut, shape, and install fiberglass cloth, mat, resin, and other composite materials.
• Mix and apply fiberglass resin, hardeners, fillers, and other approved composite materials according to specifications.
• Repair cracks, holes, fractures, blisters, and damaged fiberglass structures.
• Perform fiberglass laminating, molding, bonding, patching, and reinforcement work.
• Fabricate and install fiberglass components, panels, covers, supports, and other marine structures as required.
• Ensure proper alignment, dimensions, thickness, bonding, and structural integrity of fiberglass repairs.
• Perform grinding, sanding, polishing, and finishing work to achieve smooth and professional surfaces.
• Apply appropriate fillers, gelcoat, coatings, and finishing materials to repaired fiberglass surfaces.
• Follow vessel drawings, repair specifications, technical instructions, and manufacturer recommendations.
• Inspect completed fiberglass work to ensure quality, durability, appearance, and proper finishing.
• Use hand tools, power tools, cutting equipment, sanding equipment, and fiberglass fabrication tools safely and correctly.
• Properly handle fiberglass materials, resins, solvents, chemicals, and other workshop supplies.
• Maintain tools, equipment, workstations, and marine workshop areas in a clean and organized condition.
• Observe proper ventilation, PPE, chemical handling, and workplace safety procedures when working with fiberglass and resin materials.
• Coordinate with marine mechanics, electricians, boat builders, technicians, and supervisors during vessel repair projects.
• Report structural defects, major damage, material requirements, and other technical concerns to supervisors.
• Minimize material waste through accurate measuring, cutting, mixing, and proper handling of composite materials.
• Perform other fiberglass fabrication, repair, finishing, and marine maintenance duties as assigned.
