601 Engineering Ltd. is seeking an experienced and technically skilled Chief Heavy Diesel Mechanic to oversee and perform heavy diesel vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair in Papua New Guinea. The successful candidate will diagnose diesel engine and mechanical problems, perform preventive maintenance, repair and replace defective components, and ensure vehicles and heavy-duty equipment operate safely and efficiently. The role requires strong knowledge of diesel engines, fuel injection, braking systems, transmissions, powertrains, and automotive electrical systems.

Qualifications:

• Vocational Graduate or equivalent qualification.
• More than 3 years of professional experience in the same field.
• Proven experience in heavy diesel vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engine inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Experience using computerized diagnostic equipment and automotive testing tools.
• Skilled in routine diesel engine maintenance, including oil and filter changes.
• Experienced in repairing and replacing faulty engine components.
• Knowledge of engine performance optimization, power output, and fuel efficiency adjustments.
• Skilled in fuel injection system service and repair.
• Experienced in brake service and repair on diesel-powered vehicles.
• Knowledge and experience in transmission and powertrain repair, rebuilding, and component replacement.
• Ability to diagnose and repair automotive electrical system malfunctions.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to safely use mechanical tools, diagnostic equipment, and workshop machinery.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship and vehicle safety.
• Physically fit and capable of performing hands-on heavy diesel maintenance work.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Able to supervise or guide other mechanics and workshop personnel when required.
• Reliable, responsible, hardworking, and able to work effectively in a professional workshop environment.

Responsibilities:

• Inspect heavy diesel engines, vehicles, and equipment for defects, damage, wear, or malfunction.
• Diagnose mechanical and engine problems using computerized diagnostic equipment and other appropriate testing tools.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
• Conduct oil changes, filter replacement, lubrication, adjustments, and other scheduled servicing.
• Repair, rebuild, replace, and reinstall faulty or worn engine components.
• Perform detailed troubleshooting to identify the root causes of engine and mechanical failures.
• Conduct testing after repairs to verify that vehicles and equipment operate safely and efficiently.
• Adjust engine controls to optimize power output, engine performance, and fuel efficiency.
• Perform fuel injection system inspection, servicing, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Service and repair braking systems on diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Inspect brake components for wear, damage, leaks, and other conditions affecting safe operation.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical problems involving transmissions and powertrain components.
• Rebuild or replace transmissions and defective transmission or powertrain components as required.
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical system malfunctions in diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
• Use diagnostic scanners, electrical testing instruments, hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment safely and correctly.
• Conduct functional tests and road tests after repairs to ensure proper vehicle performance.
• Identify additional maintenance or repair requirements and report major defects to management.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, repairs, replaced components, and service activities.
• Ensure all repair and maintenance work follows manufacturer specifications, workshop procedures, and safety requirements.
• Maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, work areas, and workshop facilities in clean and safe condition.
• Properly handle oils, lubricants, fuel, batteries, filters, and other automotive materials and waste.
• Supervise and coordinate mechanics and other workshop personnel as required.
• Assist in planning preventive maintenance schedules and prioritizing urgent repair work.
• Perform other heavy diesel mechanical, maintenance, and supervisory duties assigned by management.
