Technical Spotter
Qualifications:
- Minimum of three (3) years of working experience in vehicle inspection, fleet maintenance, technical support, or a related field.
- Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in a safety-focused role within transport, construction, mining, logistics, or heavy industry environments.
- Strong knowledge of heavy vehicle components, maintenance indicators, and safety requirements.
- Ability to diagnose vehicle faults and recommend appropriate maintenance actions.
- Knowledge of heavy vehicle systems, including brakes, suspension, steering, tires, hydraulics, and electrical components.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear instructions and technical advice.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to remain alert in busy operational environments.
- Effective time management and multitasking abilities.
- Customer service orientation and strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough pre-start, pre-trip, and post-trip inspections of heavy vehicles and equipment.
- Establish and implement routine vehicle inspection schedules based on operating conditions and manufacturer recommendations.
- Inspect engines, fluid levels, tires, brakes, suspension systems, steering components, and safety equipment.
- Diagnose vehicle faults and identify mechanical issues requiring maintenance or repair.
- Determine appropriate repair pathways and provide technical recommendations to maintenance and operational teams.
- Regularly inspect and monitor engine oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, coolant, hydraulic fluids, and other essential systems.
- Identify leaks, abnormal fluid levels, or signs of mechanical failure and report findings promptly.
- Inspect tires for proper inflation, wear, damage, alignment, and balance to maximize service life.
- Examine braking systems, including brake pads, discs, lines, and related components to ensure safe operation.
- Verify proper operation of headlights, brake lights, turn signals, emergency lights, and other electrical components.
- Inspect suspension and steering systems for wear, damage, or performance issues.
- Ensure vehicles are clean and free from dirt, debris, and contaminants that may cause corrosion or operational issues.
- Verify compliance with safety checklists, logbooks, maintenance records, and regulatory requirements before vehicle dispatch.
- Assist in implementing and improving vehicle safety protocols and maintenance procedures.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, mechanics, supervisors, and maintenance personnel regarding vehicle conditions and safety concerns.
- Monitor fleet readiness and support operational capability by minimizing vehicle downtime.
- Promote workplace safety and contribute to accident prevention and risk reduction initiatives.
