Chemist/Chemical Formulator (Cleaning Detergent)

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of working experience is required.
  • Candidates must be a Bachelor’s / College Degree holder in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Engineering (Others), or similar fields.
  • Experience in detergent or cleaning chemical formulation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of surfactants, pH adjustment, viscosity control, foam control, and product stability.
  • Knowledge of formulation and testing of liquid and powder cleaning products.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to conduct laboratory trials, product testing, and stability testing accurately.
  • Ability to evaluate chemical raw materials and their suitability for detergent formulations.
  • Ability to optimize formulations based on product performance, quality, stability, and cost requirements.
  • Knowledge of quality testing procedures for raw materials and finished chemical products.
  • Ability to interpret laboratory and production test results and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ability to scale up laboratory formulations for production while maintaining consistent product quality.
  • Good documentation and record-keeping skills, including formulation sheets, specifications, test reports, and batch procedures.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory safety, chemical handling, and proper storage procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with Production and Quality Control teams.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, analytical, and capable of working independently.
  • Male applicants are preferred for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and formulate liquid and powder cleaning detergents according to product requirements and performance standards.
  • Select, evaluate, and test surfactants, builders, solvents, preservatives, fragrances, and other chemical raw materials.
  • Conduct laboratory trials to develop and improve detergent formulations.
  • Perform product testing and stability testing on new and existing formulations.
  • Optimize formulations for cleaning performance, pH, viscosity, foam generation and control, appearance, stability, and cost efficiency.
  • Adjust formulations based on laboratory test results and product performance requirements.
  • Conduct pH adjustment and viscosity evaluation to achieve specified product characteristics.
  • Evaluate foam properties and make appropriate formulation adjustments when required.
  • Monitor the physical and chemical stability of detergent formulations during development and testing.
  • Perform quality testing of incoming raw materials to verify compliance with established specifications.
  • Conduct quality testing and inspection of finished cleaning products.
  • Analyze laboratory and production test results and identify formulation-related issues.
  • Troubleshoot formulation and production problems and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Investigate variations in product quality, appearance, viscosity, pH, foam, and stability.
  • Scale up successful laboratory formulations for production while maintaining product consistency.
  • Coordinate with Production during formulation scale-up, trial batches, and production implementation.
  • Work closely with Quality Control to ensure finished products consistently meet established specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain formulation sheets, product specifications, laboratory test reports, and batch procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory trials, formulation changes, test results, and production trials.
  • Assist in evaluating alternative raw materials for performance, availability, quality, and cost.
  • Ensure chemicals and laboratory materials are properly labeled, stored, handled, and disposed of.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and appropriate chemical handling practices.
  • Ensure formulation and production activities comply with applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for detergent formulations, manufacturing processes, product quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Perform other chemistry, formulation, testing, and quality-related duties assigned by management.
