Stellar New Zealand Ltd. is seeking experienced Steel Fixers for an overseas work opportunity in New Zealand. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, assembling, positioning, and securing reinforcing steel for concrete structures while following structural drawings, construction specifications, safety procedures, and quality standards.
STEEL FIXER
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of post-trade experience as a Steel Fixer, Reinforcing Steel Fixer, or in a related position.
- High-level English communication skills.
- Proven experience in reinforcing steel installation for concrete construction.
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and reinforcement plans.
- Skilled in measuring, cutting, bending, positioning, and tying reinforcing steel bars.
- Experience working with reinforcement for beams, columns, slabs, footings, walls, and foundations.
- Ability to assemble and position steel reinforcement cages accurately.
- Competent in using bar cutters, bar benders, grinders, and other steel-fixing equipment.
- Good understanding of construction methods and reinforcement requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate workmanship.
- Physically fit and capable of performing demanding construction and manual work.
- Comfortable working outdoors and in different construction site conditions.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- Strong awareness of construction health and safety requirements.
- Reliable, hardworking, responsible, and safety-conscious.
- Ability to work effectively with supervisors and other construction trades.
- Willing to comply with New Zealand construction site requirements and company policies.
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret structural drawings, reinforcement plans, construction specifications, and project layouts.
- Measure, cut, bend, and prepare reinforcing steel bars according to project requirements.
- Install and fix reinforcement bars for beams, columns, slabs, footings, walls, foundations, and other concrete structures.
- Assemble and position steel reinforcement cages according to drawings and specified dimensions.
- Tie reinforcing bars securely using binding wire and appropriate steel-fixing techniques.
- Ensure reinforcing steel is correctly positioned, aligned, spaced, and supported before concrete placement.
- Check reinforcement installations against structural drawings and construction specifications.
- Use cutting machines, bar benders, grinders, and other steel-fixing tools safely and efficiently.
- Safely handle, move, position, and store reinforcing steel materials on construction sites.
- Work closely with carpenters, concreters, surveyors, engineers, and site supervisors to coordinate reinforcement work.
- Assist with measuring and setting out reinforcement according to project requirements.
- Inspect completed steel fixing work and correct positioning or installation issues when required.
- Follow construction site safety procedures, work permits, site rules, and quality standards.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and maintain safe working practices at all times.
- Maintain proper housekeeping and keep work areas free from unnecessary hazards.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are properly maintained and stored after use.
- Report material requirements, structural discrepancies, damaged reinforcement, or other site issues to the supervisor.
- Complete assigned steel fixing work according to project schedules and required quality standards.
- Perform other reinforcement steel installation and construction duties as assigned.
