Workvantage is seeking an experienced Skilled Fur Dresser for an overseas work opportunity in Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and processing animal hides or pelts using specialized fleshing and shaving equipment, maintaining the required thickness and quality specifications, and performing fur-finishing processes in a tannery environment.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a Fur Dresser, Skilled Fur Dresser, Tannery Worker, or related position.
• Must know how to operate fleshing and shaving machines.
• Ability to control and maintain skin or fur thickness according to required specifications.
• Some secondary school education is required.
• Knowledge of tannery operations and processes.
• Knowledge of tannery chemistry, fur finishing, or skinning is an advantage.
• Practical experience handling and processing animal skins, hides, or fur pelts.
• Ability to inspect materials and identify defects or processing problems.
• Good mechanical aptitude and ability to operate specialized production equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistent product quality.
• Physically fit and capable of performing repetitive manual work in a production environment.
• Ability to follow technical instructions, production specifications, and workplace safety procedures.
• Reliable, hardworking, and responsible.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
• Willing to work in a tannery or fur-processing environment.

Responsibilities:

• Operate fleshing and shaving machines to process fur skins and pelts.
• Adjust and control machine settings to achieve the required skin or fur thickness according to specifications.
• Inspect skins and pelts before, during, and after processing for defects, uneven thickness, damage, or other quality issues.
• Perform fleshing operations to remove unwanted tissue, fat, and other materials from skins.
• Carry out shaving operations to achieve consistent and specified thickness.
• Monitor machine operation and make adjustments when necessary to maintain product quality.
• Handle fur skins and pelts carefully to prevent damage during processing.
• Follow tannery procedures for the preparation, treatment, and finishing of fur materials.
• Apply appropriate dressing, tanning, or finishing processes according to production requirements.
• Assist with fur finishing operations, including conditioning, cleaning, drying, and other required treatments.
• Identify abnormalities in skins, equipment, or processing conditions and report them to the supervisor.
• Maintain proper production records and document processing information when required.
• Clean, inspect, and perform basic maintenance of fleshing, shaving, and related processing equipment.
• Ensure machine blades, rollers, and other components are properly maintained and safely operated.
• Follow chemical handling procedures when working with tanning or finishing materials.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Work efficiently to meet production schedules and quality requirements.
• Coordinate with other tannery workers, supervisors, and production personnel.
• Perform other fur dressing, tanning, processing, and finishing duties as assigned.
