SEWING MACHINIST
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience as a Sewing Machinist, Industrial Sewing Operator, Upholstery Sewing Machinist, or in a similar manufacturing role.
- Must hold a Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Must have completed at least a 1-year vocational course or relevant sewing/machining trade training.
- Strong experience operating industrial sewing machines and upholstery production equipment.
- Experience working with fabric, leather, vinyl, foam, and upholstery materials.
- Skilled in cutting, sewing, overlocking, skiving, fitting, and foam gluing processes.
- Experience in pattern matching and handling patterned materials.
- Knowledge of machine adjustments, thread selection, stitch quality, and material handling.
- Experience installing zips, piping, sliders, touch tapes, and related upholstery accessories.
- Ability to perform basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Valid driver’s license is an advantage.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain industrial sewing machines and upholstery production equipment.
- Perform sewing, overlocking, skiving, cutting, fitting, and assembly of upholstery products.
- Operate equipment including plain sewer, walking foot machine, long arm machine, twin needle machine, decorative stitch machine, industrial overlocker, and leather skiving machine.
- Measure, cut, and prepare fabric, leather, vinyl, foam, and upholstery materials according to production specifications.
- Match patterns accurately and ensure proper material alignment during production.
- Install zips, sliders, piping cords, braided cords, flanged cords, touch tapes, and other upholstery accessories.
- Select appropriate threads, needles, stitch types, and machine settings based on material requirements.
- Perform fitting-off, foam cutting, and foam gluing processes to complete finished products.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Carry out routine machine cleaning, adjustments, and basic preventive maintenance.
- Read and follow production drawings, work instructions, and quality procedures.
- Report equipment faults, material defects, and safety concerns to supervisors.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while meeting daily production targets.
