Pipe Welder Fabricator
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience is required.
- Candidates must be a Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate holder in Engineering or a similar field.
- Proven experience in pipe welding and steel fabrication.
- Ability to pass Welder Qualification Tests to AS/NZS 1554.1 SP for:
- GMAW butt welds
- GMAW multi-run fillet welds
- FCAW butt welds
- FCAW multi-run fillet welds
- Experience joining, welding, and marking out large-diameter steel pipes.
- Practical experience in steel fabrication, including joining steel plates and maintaining specified tolerances.
- Strong knowledge of welding and fabrication procedures.
- Ability to understand and apply measurements involving circles, diameters, circumference, and related mathematical principles.
- Knowledge of Pythagorean principles as applied to fabrication and measurements.
- Experience operating welding booms, manipulators, and pipe rotators.
- Mechanically minded with the ability to perform basic maintenance of welding machinery.
- Ability to remove sharp edges, welding spatter, and excess material from fabricated components.
- Experience blending weld stop-start areas on steel pipes.
- Ability to understand and speak English.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Physically fit and capable of performing demanding welding and fabrication work.
- Able to follow welding procedures, technical drawings, safety instructions, and quality requirements.
- Reliable, hardworking, safety-conscious, and responsible.
Responsibilities:
- Perform welding and fabrication of large-diameter steel pipes according to drawings, specifications, and workplace procedures.
- Join, weld, assemble, and fabricate steel pipes and steel plates.
- Perform GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) and FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding) welding processes.
- Carry out butt welds and multi-run fillet welds to the required standards.
- Mark out large-diameter steel pipes accurately before cutting, fitting, and welding.
- Measure, align, position, and fit steel components to specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, welding procedures, measurements, and technical specifications.
- Apply appropriate welding techniques to maintain weld quality and structural integrity.
- Operate welding booms, welding manipulators, pipe rotators, and related fabrication equipment.
- Set up welding equipment and adjust machine settings according to material, welding process, and job requirements.
- Inspect welds and fabricated components for defects, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
- Remove welding spatter, sharp edges, and excess material from completed welds.
- Blend and finish weld stop-start areas on steel pipes to achieve the required surface finish.
- Perform grinding, cleaning, dressing, and other weld-finishing activities as required.
- Maintain proper alignment and tolerances during steel fabrication and welding.
- Use mathematical principles involving diameters, circumference, circles, measurements, and Pythagorean relationships when performing fabrication and pipe layout work.
- Operate welding and fabrication machinery safely and efficiently.
- Perform basic mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting of welding machinery and equipment.
- Identify equipment problems and report major mechanical or electrical issues to supervisors or maintenance personnel.
- Maintain welding machines, tools, manipulators, rotators, and other equipment in good working condition.
- Follow welding procedures, quality requirements, workplace instructions, and safety standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fabrication area.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during welding, grinding, cutting, and fabrication activities.
- Perform other pipe fabrication and welding duties as assigned.
