HVAC TECHNICIAN
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required.
- Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate in HVAC, Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning, or a related technical field.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in HVAC, refrigeration, or air-conditioning is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
- Ability to install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain different types of HVAC equipment.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems, controls, wiring, motors, and HVAC control components.
- Relevant trade certification or government license is preferred or may be required depending on the type of work and applicable regulations.
- Training or certification for the safe handling of refrigerants is preferred and may be required.
- Knowledge of refrigerant recovery, charging, leak detection, evacuation, and safe refrigerant handling procedures.
- Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.
- Skilled in using HVAC tools, electrical testing instruments, gauges, recovery equipment, and other service equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, problem-solving, and technical skills.
- Good understanding of workplace safety procedures, proper tool use, PPE, and environmental safety requirements.
- Physically fit and capable of working in confined spaces, elevated areas, hot environments, and demanding maintenance conditions.
- Reliable, hardworking, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or as part of a technical maintenance team.
Responsibilities:
- Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems.
- Perform installation and servicing of air-conditioning units, ventilation equipment, refrigeration systems, and related components.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and control system problems using appropriate tools and testing equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure HVAC equipment operates safely and efficiently.
- Check refrigerant levels, pressures, temperatures, electrical connections, controls, motors, compressors, fans, coils, filters, and other system components.
- Perform refrigerant recovery, charging, evacuation, leak detection, and other refrigerant-related procedures using approved equipment and safe practices.
- Repair or replace defective components, wiring, controls, motors, compressors, thermostats, valves, belts, filters, and other HVAC parts as required.
- Test HVAC systems after installation or repair to verify proper operation, performance, temperature control, and efficiency.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical specifications, wiring diagrams, schematics, and installation instructions.
- Use basic electrical and controls knowledge to diagnose and resolve HVAC system faults.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, refrigerant usage, parts replaced, and equipment condition.
- Coordinate with supervisors, building personnel, contractors, and other technicians regarding HVAC requirements and maintenance schedules.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and service requests and perform timely corrective repairs.
- Maintain HVAC tools, testing instruments, recovery machines, and other technical equipment in good working condition.
- Keep work areas, equipment rooms, tools, and service areas clean and organized.
- Follow workplace safety procedures, manufacturer instructions, applicable regulations, and environmental requirements.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing installation, maintenance, electrical, and refrigerant-related work.
- Perform other HVAC, refrigeration, maintenance, and technical duties assigned by management.
