Heavy Mining Equipment Mechanic

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Heavy Mining Equipment Mechanic or in a similar mining or heavy equipment maintenance role.
  • Vocational Diploma, Technical Certificate, or equivalent qualification in Heavy Equipment Maintenance, Diesel Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, powertrain components, electrical systems, and mining equipment diagnostics.
  • Experience servicing major heavy equipment brands such as Caterpillar (CAT), Komatsu, Hitachi, Volvo, Liebherr, Sandvik, or Epiroc is an advantage.
  • Skilled in using computerized diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics, electrical diagrams, and technical service manuals.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Physically fit and capable of working in demanding mining environments and lifting heavy components.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy mining equipment, including excavators, haul trucks, wheel loaders, bulldozers, graders, drills, crushers, articulated dump trucks, and other mining machinery.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, scheduled servicing, lubrication, oil changes, and replacement of filters and wear components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, axles, braking systems, steering systems, suspension, and electrical components.
  • Use diagnostic tools, computerized testing equipment, and technical manuals to identify equipment faults accurately.
  • Repair or replace defective mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical components.
  • Conduct equipment inspections to ensure compliance with operational, environmental, and safety standards.
  • Test equipment after repairs to verify proper performance and safe operation before returning it to service.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, inspection checklists, and equipment history.
  • Coordinate with equipment operators and supervisors to schedule maintenance and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend maintenance improvements to extend equipment life and increase productivity.
  • Maintain workshop tools, service vehicles, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Follow company health, safety, environmental, and mining regulations while using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Respond promptly to emergency equipment breakdowns in mining operations.
  • Perform other mechanical maintenance duties assigned by management.
