Assistant Cook

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as an Assistant Cook, Kitchen Helper, Commis Chef, or in a similar food preparation role is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques, kitchen operations, and safe food handling practices.
  • Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment and cooking utensils.
  • Understanding of food hygiene, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Physically fit and able to stand for long periods and lift kitchen supplies when necessary.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and time management skills.
  • Willingness to learn new cooking techniques and follow instructions carefully.
  • Honest, reliable, and committed to maintaining high food quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Chef and kitchen staff in preparing and cooking meals according to approved recipes and menu standards.
  • Wash, peel, cut, chop, slice, and measure ingredients for daily food preparation.
  • Prepare mise en place by organizing ingredients and kitchen tools before meal service.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, fryers, mixers, and food processors safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in cooking soups, sauces, vegetables, meats, rice, pasta, and other menu items as directed by the chef.
  • Ensure food is prepared, stored, and handled in accordance with food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen workstations, utensils, equipment, and food preparation areas before and after use.
  • Assist in receiving, checking, storing, and rotating food supplies using the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) method.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or damaged supplies to the supervisor.
  • Help minimize food waste through proper portioning and storage practices.
  • Dispose of kitchen waste properly and maintain cleanliness throughout the kitchen.
  • Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure timely meal preparation during busy service periods.
  • Perform other kitchen and food preparation duties assigned by the Head Chef or management.
