PIPING QC ENGINEER
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of working experience as a Piping QC Engineer or in a related piping quality control position.
- Must be a Bachelor’s / College Degree holder in Engineering (Chemical), Engineering (Mechanical), or similar fields.
- Male applicants are preferred for this role.
- Diploma in Engineering or Science Graduate is preferred.
- CSWIP 3.1 or AWS-CWI certification is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of piping construction, fabrication, fit-up, welding, installation, and inspection.
- Familiarity with applicable piping codes, standards, specifications, and inspection procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret piping drawings, specifications, isometric drawings, and inspection requirements.
- Experience conducting inspections at different stages of piping construction.
- Knowledge of piping materials, fittings, valves, flanges, pipe supports, hangers, and related components.
- Strong understanding of welding procedures, welder qualifications, weld identification, joint preparation, and visual weld inspection.
- Knowledge of welding defects and appropriate inspection and acceptance requirements.
- Practical experience coordinating and monitoring NDT activities.
- Familiarity with radiography (RT), ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and dye penetrant testing (PT).
- Ability to review NDT reports and inspection results and identify non-conforming conditions.
- Strong knowledge of quality documentation, inspection records, material traceability, and NCR procedures.
- Familiarity with computer applications for reporting, documentation, and quality record management.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in inspection and documentation activities.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills when working with engineers, inspectors, welders, contractors, and construction personnel.
- Ability to work independently and make sound quality-related decisions within assigned responsibilities.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements in industrial and construction environments.
- Reliable, organized, disciplined, proactive, and quality-conscious.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect piping materials, fabrication, fit-up, welding, and installation activities to ensure compliance with approved project requirements.
- Review and interpret piping drawings, specifications, isometric drawings, and inspection requirements.
- Conduct inspections at various stages of piping construction, fabrication, installation, and testing.
- Verify incoming piping materials, fittings, valves, flanges, and other components against approved specifications and documentation.
- Check material identification, dimensions, condition, and traceability before materials are released for fabrication or installation.
- Inspect pipe fabrication activities and verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and procedures.
- Conduct and document inspections of pipe fit-up, alignment, orientation, dimensions, and joint preparation.
- Inspect welding activities and verify compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and project requirements.
- Verify welder qualifications and certifications before welding activities are performed.
- Check weld identification, joint traceability, welding parameters, and applicable welding records.
- Inspect visual weld quality and identify defects or non-conformities requiring corrective action.
- Monitor and coordinate Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities in accordance with approved inspection and test requirements.
- Monitor NDT methods including radiographic testing (RT), ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and dye penetrant testing (PT).
- Review NDT results and reports and ensure identified defects are properly addressed.
- Inspect pipe supports, hangers, valves, flanges, fittings, and other piping components for proper installation and compliance.
- Verify piping installation against approved isometric drawings, specifications, dimensions, and design requirements.
- Conduct dimensional and visual inspections of completed piping systems.
- Coordinate with construction, engineering, welding, NDT, and QA/QC personnel regarding inspection activities.
- Prepare and maintain inspection reports, checklists, test records, and other quality documentation.
- Raise non-conformance reports (NCRs) when materials, workmanship, or installation activities fail to meet specified requirements.
- Follow up on corrective and preventive actions and verify that identified non-conformities are properly resolved.
- Maintain proper traceability of piping materials, weld joints, inspection activities, NDT results, and quality records.
- Participate in inspection meetings and coordinate inspection schedules with project and site personnel.
- Ensure required inspections and approvals are completed before work proceeds to the next construction stage.
- Review relevant codes, standards, specifications, drawings, and quality procedures before conducting inspections.
- Ensure all piping QC activities comply with applicable project quality requirements and industry standards.
- Use computer applications for preparing reports, maintaining records, and managing inspection documentation.
- Assist in final inspections, punch-list activities, quality dossier preparation, and project handover.
- Identify recurring quality issues and recommend improvements to piping construction and inspection processes.
- Promote compliance with quality, safety, and environmental requirements throughout piping construction activities.
- Perform other piping quality control, inspection, and engineering duties assigned by management.
