Peloton Workready is seeking an experienced and skilled Small Engine Mechanic for an overseas work opportunity in Australia. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, and servicing small engines and related equipment, including inspecting mechanical components, replacing worn parts, tuning engine systems, troubleshooting faults, and explaining repair requirements to clients.
SMALL ENGINE MECHANIC
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of working experience as a Small Engine Mechanic or in a related mechanical repair position.
- Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate holder in a relevant or similar field.
- Must have a valid passport.
- Must have relevant work experience in the same field.
- Practical experience diagnosing, servicing, maintaining, and repairing small engines and related equipment.
- Knowledge of engine mechanical, fuel, ignition, cooling, lubrication, and starting systems.
- Skilled in using hand tools, gauges, meters, dials, and electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Experience performing oil changes, spark plug replacement, fuel-system cleaning, engine tuning, and preventive maintenance.
- Knowledge of repairing or replacing components such as carburetors, magnetos, pistons, water pumps, and related engine parts.
- Ability to disassemble, inspect, repair, replace, and reassemble mechanical components accurately.
- Ability to diagnose faults systematically and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Good understanding of technical manuals, service procedures, and manufacturer repair specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Good practical problem-solving and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Able to work with less supervision and manage assigned repair and maintenance tasks responsibly.
- Willing to learn new ideas, techniques, equipment, and repair methods.
- Good communication and customer-service skills, with the ability to explain repairs and maintenance requirements clearly.
- Physically fit and capable of performing hands-on mechanical work, including lifting, bending, standing, and working in workshop environments.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety procedures and proper PPE use.
- Reliable, hardworking, disciplined, and safety-conscious.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect and diagnose small engines, mechanical systems, and related equipment to identify faults, worn components, and performance problems.
- Conduct engine tests using hand tools, gauges, meters, dials, and electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Interpret diagnostic results and determine the appropriate repair, replacement, or maintenance procedures.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and servicing of small engines and equipment.
- Change engine oil, replace oil filters, and perform other scheduled maintenance procedures.
- Inspect and replace spark plugs and service ignition components as required.
- Clean and maintain fuel lines, fuel systems, filters, and related components.
- Tune ignition and engine systems to ensure proper starting, operation, performance, and fuel efficiency.
- Inspect carburetors and fuel delivery systems and repair, clean, adjust, or replace defective components.
- Repair or replace faulty magnetos, pistons, water pumps, and other engine components.
- Disassemble and reassemble engines and mechanical components safely and accurately.
- Inspect engine parts for excessive wear, cracks, damage, corrosion, or other defects.
- Replace damaged or worn components using appropriate replacement parts and repair procedures.
- Troubleshoot problems involving fuel, ignition, cooling, lubrication, starting, and mechanical systems.
- Perform engine adjustments and testing after repairs to confirm proper operation.
- Conduct final inspections and operational tests to ensure repaired equipment is safe and functioning correctly.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, diagnoses, repairs, replacement parts, and maintenance performed.
- Keep tools, diagnostic equipment, work benches, and workshop areas clean and properly organized.
- Inspect and maintain mechanic’s tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices to ensure safe and reliable use.
- Follow manufacturer recommendations, technical manuals, service procedures, and repair specifications.
- Explain identified mechanical problems and recommended repairs clearly to clients.
- Discuss required maintenance, repair options, and ongoing servicing requirements with clients.
- Provide reasonable repair and service cost estimates based on identified work and required parts.
- Maintain professional and courteous communication with clients throughout the repair process.
- Order or request replacement parts and materials required to complete assigned repairs.
- Minimize unnecessary parts replacement and material waste through accurate diagnosis and troubleshooting.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures when handling engines, fuels, oils, tools, chemicals, and machinery.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe and hazard-free workshop.
- Work efficiently with minimal supervision while keeping supervisors informed of significant repair issues.
- Keep updated with new repair techniques, diagnostic methods, equipment, and mechanical technologies.
- Perform other mechanical repair, maintenance, servicing, and workshop duties assigned by management.
