SAFETY OFFICER
Qualifications:
- Minimum 8 years of working experience as a Safety Officer or in a related occupational health and safety position.
- Must be a Bachelor’s / College Degree holder in Engineering (Electrical/Electronic) or similar fields.
- Male applicants are preferred for this role.
- Graduate / Higher National Diploma (HND) or Higher National Certificate (HNC) with NEBOSH IGC in Occupational Health & Safety, IOSH, or equivalent certification.
- Minimum 3–4 years of Gulf experience is required.
- Strong experience implementing and monitoring occupational health and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Practical experience conducting workplace inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments.
- Strong knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, and appropriate control measures.
- Experience investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses and preparing detailed investigation reports.
- Experience conducting safety orientations, toolbox meetings, inductions, and employee/contractor safety training.
- Strong knowledge of PPE requirements and ability to monitor proper PPE selection and usage.
- Good understanding of safe work practices and workplace hazard prevention.
- Strong reporting, documentation, coordination, and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify unsafe conditions and practices.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- English proficiency is mandatory, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate safety instructions clearly to employees, contractors, supervisors, and management.
- Ability to work independently and take proactive action on safety concerns.
- Physically fit and capable of conducting regular site inspections and working in project or industrial environments.
- Reliable, disciplined, proactive, and committed to maintaining high safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Implement and monitor company safety policies, procedures, programs, and occupational health and safety requirements.
- Ensure workplace activities comply with applicable safety procedures, regulations, standards, and project requirements.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and safety audits to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and unsafe work practices.
- Identify potential physical, chemical, electrical, mechanical, and environmental hazards in the workplace.
- Conduct risk assessments for work activities and recommend appropriate control and preventive measures.
- Monitor the implementation of identified risk controls and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Conduct routine inspections of work areas, equipment, tools, machinery, access routes, and other site facilities.
- Identify unsafe acts and conditions and immediately communicate required corrective actions to responsible personnel.
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe occurrences.
- Gather information, interview involved personnel, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive measures following incidents.
- Prepare detailed accident, incident, near-miss, inspection, audit, and safety reports.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, corrective actions, training, and other occupational health and safety activities.
- Conduct safety orientations and induction programs for newly hired employees, contractors, and site personnel.
- Conduct regular toolbox meetings and safety briefings before or during work activities.
- Provide safety training and awareness programs to employees and contractors based on identified workplace risks.
- Promote proper understanding and implementation of safe work procedures among workers.
- Monitor the proper selection, availability, condition, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure employees and contractors wear appropriate PPE based on the hazards associated with their assigned activities.
- Inspect PPE and report damaged, defective, or unsuitable protective equipment.
- Monitor compliance with safe work practices during construction, maintenance, installation, and other project activities.
- Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, contractors, and management to address safety concerns and improve workplace conditions.
- Review work activities and recommend appropriate safety precautions before high-risk tasks are performed.
- Assist in implementing emergency preparedness and response procedures.
- Participate in emergency drills and ensure employees understand applicable emergency procedures.
- Monitor housekeeping and ensure work areas are maintained in a clean, orderly, and hazard-free condition.
- Monitor safe practices involving tools, machinery, lifting operations, electrical equipment, work at height, and other potentially hazardous activities.
- Follow up on safety observations, audit findings, inspection deficiencies, and corrective action requirements.
- Provide regular safety performance updates and recommendations to project management.
- Promote continuous improvement in workplace health and safety performance.
- Ensure safety documentation is complete, accurate, current, and properly maintained.
- Perform other occupational health and safety duties assigned by management.
