DIESEL MECHANIC/ELECTRICIAN (HEAVY TRUCK & GENSET)

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience.
• No minimum educational attainment is required for this position.
• Completion of a Diesel Technology program or vocational training is preferred.
• Technical college training and professional Diesel Certification are an advantage.
• Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic working with heavy trucks and diesel-powered equipment.
• Experience with motor vehicle electrical systems and electrical troubleshooting.
• Experience in the maintenance and repair of gensets/generator sets and control panels.
• Knowledge and practical experience with hydraulic systems and components.
• Strong ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate tools and computer-assisted diagnostic equipment.
• Knowledge of diesel engine systems, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and related heavy vehicle components.
• Ability to safely dismantle, inspect, repair, replace, reassemble, test, and adjust mechanical components.
• Ability to read and follow service manuals, technical instructions, specifications, and wiring diagrams.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures, including oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups, and routine inspections.
• Strong troubleshooting, mechanical, electrical, and problem-solving skills.
• Physically capable of performing hands-on repair and maintenance work involving heavy vehicles and equipment.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety, equipment reliability, and quality workmanship.
• Responsible, hardworking, reliable, and able to work independently as well as part of a technical maintenance team.

Responsibilities:

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in heavy trucks, diesel engines, gensets, control panels, and related components.
• Conduct systematic inspections and troubleshooting to identify the causes of mechanical, electrical, and operational problems.
• Use appropriate diagnostic tools and computer-assisted equipment to test and identify faults.
• Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other mechanical components for inspection and repair.
• Inspect dismantled components and determine whether parts require repair, replacement, adjustment, or further testing.
• Repair or replace worn, damaged, defective, or malfunctioning mechanical and electrical parts.
• Reassemble engines, transmissions, mechanical components, and other assemblies after repair.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on heavy trucks, gensets, and other diesel-powered equipment.
• Conduct oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, engine tune-ups, and other routine servicing activities.
• Inspect and maintain vehicle electrical systems, wiring, batteries, starters, alternators, lighting, and related components.
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults in gensets and generator control panels.
• Inspect and troubleshoot hydraulic systems and components used in heavy vehicles and equipment.
• Refer to service manuals, technical specifications, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer instructions when performing repairs.
• Test and adjust repaired mechanical and electrical components to ensure proper operation and performance.
• Conduct operational testing of engines, vehicles, gensets, and related equipment after repairs.
• Check engine performance and operating conditions to help ensure smooth and efficient operation.
• Perform maintenance and repair work in accordance with applicable environmental and pollution-control requirements.
• Identify recurring faults and report major repair requirements or equipment concerns to supervisors.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, repairs, replacement parts, and testing activities.
• Keep tools, diagnostic equipment, workshop areas, and workspaces clean and properly organized.
• Follow workplace safety procedures when working with heavy machinery, electrical systems, hydraulic equipment, fuels, lubricants, and moving components.
• Coordinate with other mechanics, electricians, operators, and supervisors to ensure equipment is maintained and returned to service efficiently.
