Aluminum Welder
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Welder, with strong focus on aluminum welding in shipyard or marine environments.
- Completed at least 1-year vocational course or one year in college; graduate of a four-year undergraduate course preferred.
- Proven expertise in GTAW (TIG) and GMAW (MIG) welding for aluminum materials.
- Experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or marine fabrication projects.
- Ability to read and interpret marine and fabrication drawings.
- Strong knowledge of aluminum welding techniques, including heat control and distortion prevention.
- Familiarity with marine-grade materials and welding standards.
- Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts.
- Strong English communication skills for liaising with Factory Manager and team members.
- Knowledge of Work Health and Safety (WHS) practices.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications for aluminum welding works in shipbuilding and marine structures.
- Perform high-quality aluminum welding (GTAW/TIG and GMAW/MIG) on ship hulls, superstructures, decks, bulkheads, and marine components.
- Prepare aluminum materials by cutting, grinding, cleaning, and fitting prior to welding to ensure proper joint preparation and fit-up.
- Execute welding in various positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead) depending on project requirements.
- Ensure welds meet marine-grade standards for strength, alignment, and finish quality.
- Conduct visual inspections of welds and perform minor repairs or rework as needed.
- Handle and control heat input to prevent warping and distortion of aluminum materials.
- Perform gouging, grinding, and finishing of welds to meet project specifications.
- Maintain welding tools and equipment, including TIG/MIG machines and consumables.
- Collaborate with supervisors and team members to meet production schedules and deadlines.
- Follow all Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations and use PPE at all times.
- Support shipyard operations, including overtime or shift work, as required.
