Aluminum Welder

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Welder, with strong focus on aluminum welding in shipyard or marine environments.
  • Completed at least 1-year vocational course or one year in college; graduate of a four-year undergraduate course preferred.
  • Proven expertise in GTAW (TIG) and GMAW (MIG) welding for aluminum materials.
  • Experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or marine fabrication projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret marine and fabrication drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of aluminum welding techniques, including heat control and distortion prevention.
  • Familiarity with marine-grade materials and welding standards.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Strong English communication skills for liaising with Factory Manager and team members.
  • Knowledge of Work Health and Safety (WHS) practices.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications for aluminum welding works in shipbuilding and marine structures.
  • Perform high-quality aluminum welding (GTAW/TIG and GMAW/MIG) on ship hulls, superstructures, decks, bulkheads, and marine components.
  • Prepare aluminum materials by cutting, grinding, cleaning, and fitting prior to welding to ensure proper joint preparation and fit-up.
  • Execute welding in various positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead) depending on project requirements.
  • Ensure welds meet marine-grade standards for strength, alignment, and finish quality.
  • Conduct visual inspections of welds and perform minor repairs or rework as needed.
  • Handle and control heat input to prevent warping and distortion of aluminum materials.
  • Perform gouging, grinding, and finishing of welds to meet project specifications.
  • Maintain welding tools and equipment, including TIG/MIG machines and consumables.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members to meet production schedules and deadlines.
  • Follow all Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations and use PPE at all times.
  • Support shipyard operations, including overtime or shift work, as required.
