Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience is required.
  • Candidates must be a Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate holder in Hospitality/Tourism Management or similar fields.
  • Proven experience as a Commi 1, Commis Chef, or similar kitchen position.
  • Good knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, kitchen operations, and food service standards.
  • Ability to prepare, cook, and serve food while maintaining high standards of quality and consistency.
  • Ability to independently manage and take the lead on an assigned kitchen station.
  • Ability to educate, guide, and assist junior chefs and kitchen staff.
  • Strong understanding of mise en place, portion control, food presentation, and kitchen organization.
  • Knowledge of proper food handling, hygiene, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining food quality.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced professional kitchen.
  • Good teamwork, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Reliable, hardworking, disciplined, and willing to follow instructions from senior chefs and management.
  • Male applicants are preferred for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high working standards, professional ethics, and discipline as expected by the Restaurant Chef or Executive Chef.
  • Prepare, cook, and serve food according to established recipes, menu specifications, and kitchen standards.
  • Ensure that all food is prepared and served while maintaining the highest possible quality.
  • Follow agreed food preparation, cooking, portioning, presentation, and service standards.
  • Take responsibility for an assigned kitchen station and ensure it is properly organized and prepared for service.
  • Complete daily mise en place and ensure all required ingredients are ready before service.
  • Monitor cooking times, temperatures, seasoning, portion sizes, and presentation to maintain consistent food quality.
  • Take the lead on a kitchen station during service and coordinate tasks efficiently.
  • Educate, guide, and assist junior chefs and kitchen staff in proper food preparation and cooking techniques.
  • Provide support to the Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, or Executive Chef during food preparation and service.
  • Coordinate with other kitchen sections to ensure food orders are prepared and served accurately and on time.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the assigned workstation throughout the shift.
  • Properly clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, preparation areas, and workstations.
  • Follow proper food handling, hygiene, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before use and report any concerns to the supervising chef.
  • Store, label, and handle ingredients properly to maintain freshness and minimize food waste.
  • Follow established kitchen procedures and company standards consistently.
  • Assist with inventory monitoring and inform the supervising chef when ingredients or supplies are running low.
  • Work efficiently and remain calm and organized during busy kitchen service periods.
  • Support other kitchen stations and perform additional culinary duties when required.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and positive working relationship with other members of the kitchen team.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Restaurant Chef, Executive Chef, or management.
