Power Station Shift Supervisor
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Plant Technology, or a related technical field, subject to the employer’s requirements.
- Relevant experience in power station operations, power generation, or industrial utility systems is required.
- Previous experience as a shift supervisor, senior operator, or team leader in a power station or industrial plant is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of power generation equipment and associated electrical, mechanical, and auxiliary systems.
- Familiarity with generators, turbines, boilers, transformers, switchgear, and control systems, as applicable to the facility.
- Understanding of electrical load management, equipment startup and shutdown, and power distribution operations.
- Ability to interpret operating parameters, alarms, equipment readings, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance coordination and basic troubleshooting of power generation equipment.
- Familiarity with industrial control systems, monitoring systems, and equipment protection systems.
- Understanding of electrical safety, permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout procedures, and emergency response requirements.
- Strong leadership, team supervision, and shift coordination skills.
- Good analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively to equipment failures and power supply interruptions.
- Good communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate operating logs, shift reports, and incident records.
- Physically fit and capable of working in an industrial power station environment.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by the employer.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily power station operations and ensure the reliable supply of electricity to plant facilities.
- Monitor the operation and performance of generators, turbines, boilers, transformers, switchgear, and auxiliary equipment, as applicable to the facility.
- Coordinate shift activities and assign duties to power station operators and other technical personnel.
- Monitor electrical load, power generation output, voltage, frequency, temperature, pressure, and other relevant operating parameters.
- Ensure power generation equipment operates within approved operating limits and manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify abnormal equipment conditions, alarms, leaks, unusual noise, vibration, or overheating.
- Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation maintenance teams to address equipment faults and operational issues.
- Ensure preventive maintenance activities are properly coordinated to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns, power interruptions, and other operational emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
- Coordinate equipment startup, shutdown, load changes, and switching operations in accordance with approved operating instructions.
- Monitor fuel consumption, energy efficiency, and operating performance where applicable.
- Maintain accurate shift logs, operating records, equipment status reports, and incident documentation.
- Conduct shift handovers and communicate operational conditions, pending maintenance work, and safety concerns to incoming personnel.
- Ensure operators follow standard operating procedures and approved work instructions.
- Coordinate with the plant production and electrical departments to meet power supply requirements and maintain operational continuity.
- Monitor the performance of auxiliary systems, including cooling, lubrication, compressed air, and other supporting utilities, as applicable.
- Ensure protection systems, alarms, emergency equipment, and safety devices are maintained in operational condition.
- Enforce electrical safety procedures, permit-to-work requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures before maintenance activities.
- Ensure personnel use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with workplace safety requirements.
- Investigate operational abnormalities and equipment trips, identify contributing factors, and recommend corrective actions.
- Supervise and guide shift personnel to maintain operational discipline, technical competence, and safe working practices.
- Coordinate emergency response activities and communicate significant incidents to management.
- Monitor housekeeping and ensure that the power station and surrounding work areas remain clean, organized, and safe.
- Prepare shift performance reports covering power generation, equipment availability, interruptions, and maintenance requirements.
- Perform other power station operations and supervisory duties assigned by management.
