PLATE FITTER
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience.
- Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s / College Degree in Industrial Engineering or a similar field, as specified by the employer.
- Experience working with carbon steel and stainless steel.
- Practical experience in plate fitting, sheet metal work, cutting, fitting, and assembly.
- Experience with MIG or MAG welding of steel structures.
- Ability to read and understand technical and fabrication drawings.
- Good understanding of steel fabrication and fitting procedures.
- Experience in steel construction, mechanical production, or the maritime industry is an advantage.
- Ability to accurately measure, cut, fit, align, and assemble steel components.
- Knowledge of welding preparation and basic welding quality requirements.
- Ability to safely operate fabrication tools, welding equipment, grinders, and cutting equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good problem-solving and practical mechanical skills.
- Physically fit and capable of handling steel materials and performing manual work.
- Ability to work safely in a workshop, fabrication facility, construction site, or maritime environment.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production or fabrication team.
- Reliable, hardworking, and responsible.
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret technical drawings, fabrication drawings, and project specifications.
- Measure, mark, cut, and prepare steel plates and sheet metal according to required dimensions.
- Perform sheet metal cutting, fitting, and assembly according to technical drawings.
- Fit and align carbon steel and stainless steel components before welding and final assembly.
- Prepare steel structures and components for welding and fabrication.
- Perform MIG/MAG welding on steel structures and fabricated components as required.
- Set up and safely operate welding machines, cutting tools, grinders, and other fabrication equipment.
- Ensure welded and fitted components meet required dimensions, alignment, and quality standards.
- Check measurements and tolerances throughout the fabrication process.
- Grind, clean, and prepare metal surfaces before and after welding.
- Assemble structural steel components and mechanical parts according to drawings.
- Identify and correct fitting, alignment, or dimensional issues during fabrication.
- Work with carbon steel and stainless steel materials using appropriate fabrication techniques.
- Inspect completed work for defects, dimensional accuracy, proper fit, and workmanship.
- Follow approved welding, fabrication, and workplace procedures.
- Maintain and properly use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication machinery.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow occupational health and safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Coordinate with welders, fabricators, engineers, supervisors, and other production personnel.
- Assist with lifting, positioning, and securing heavy steel components using approved equipment and procedures.
- Perform other plate fitting, steel fabrication, welding, and production duties assigned by management.
