Mechanical Support Workshop Supervisor
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field, subject to the employer’s requirements.
- Relevant experience in mechanical workshop operations, industrial maintenance, equipment repair, or fabrication is required.
- Previous experience supervising a mechanical workshop or maintenance team is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical equipment, components, repair methods, and maintenance procedures.
- Familiarity with pumps, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, valves, conveyors, crushers, mills, and other industrial machinery.
- Knowledge of mechanical fitting, dismantling, assembly, alignment, and equipment troubleshooting.
- Experience coordinating fabrication, welding, cutting, fitting, and machining activities is an advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, work orders, and technical specifications.
- Understanding of preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and equipment reliability practices.
- Ability to plan workshop workloads, allocate manpower, and monitor job completion.
- Knowledge of workshop tools, lifting equipment, machinery, and safe material-handling practices.
- Strong leadership, team supervision, and coordination skills.
- Good problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records, work reports, and material usage documentation.
- Strong commitment to quality workmanship, workplace safety, and operational efficiency.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize urgent maintenance requirements.
- Physically fit to work in an industrial workshop and plant environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours or shifts when required by operational needs.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily mechanical workshop operations and ensure that assigned jobs are completed safely and efficiently.
- Plan, schedule, and prioritize mechanical repair, maintenance, fabrication, and workshop support activities.
- Assign tasks to mechanics, fitters, welders, machinists, fabricators, and other workshop personnel according to their skills and workload.
- Oversee the inspection, dismantling, repair, reassembly, and testing of mechanical components and equipment.
- Coordinate the repair and maintenance of industrial machinery, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, valves, and other mechanical components.
- Support maintenance activities for cement plant equipment, including crushers, conveyors, mills, fans, and other machinery, as required.
- Supervise fabrication, cutting, fitting, welding, and modification work according to approved drawings and technical specifications.
- Review work orders, technical drawings, equipment manuals, and repair instructions before work begins.
- Ensure that workshop jobs meet required quality standards, dimensional tolerances, and equipment specifications.
- Coordinate with plant maintenance, production, electrical, and engineering departments to address mechanical support requirements.
- Monitor the progress of workshop jobs and ensure that urgent equipment repairs are prioritized to minimize plant downtime.
- Inspect completed repairs and fabricated components to verify workmanship, safety, and operational readiness.
- Ensure that workshop tools, lifting equipment, machines, and other resources are properly used and maintained.
- Monitor the availability of spare parts, raw materials, consumables, and workshop supplies.
- Coordinate with stores and procurement personnel regarding material requirements and replacement components.
- Maintain records of work orders, repair activities, labor allocation, material usage, equipment history, and job completion.
- Identify recurring mechanical failures and recommend corrective measures to improve equipment reliability.
- Implement appropriate workshop procedures and ensure compliance with established maintenance standards.
- Enforce workplace safety rules, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure compliance with permit-to-work, lockout/tagout, lifting, welding, and hot-work safety procedures, as applicable.
- Maintain proper housekeeping and ensure that workshop floors, workstations, tools, and storage areas remain clean and organized.
- Train, guide, and evaluate workshop personnel to improve technical performance and safety awareness.
- Coordinate equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, and workshop improvement activities.
- Report workshop performance, major repair requirements, material shortages, and operational concerns to management.
- Perform other mechanical workshop supervision and maintenance support duties assigned by management.
