Committee Australia is seeking experienced Mechanical Fitters to assemble, install, overhaul, maintain, and repair heavy mining equipment and industrial machinery. The successful candidates will perform precision mechanical fitting work, troubleshoot equipment issues, and ensure all maintenance and assembly activities comply with Australian engineering, quality, and workplace safety standards.

MECHANICAL FITTER

Qualifications:

• Trade Certificate in Mechanical Fitting or an equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in mechanical fitting, assembly, overhaul, and maintenance of heavy mining equipment and industrial machinery.
• Dogging or Basic Rigging Certification and a High Risk Forklift Licence are highly advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Bearing installation
  • End float and take-up adjustments
  • Gearbox assembly
  • Blue patterning
  • Backlash setup
  • Tensioning bolts
  • Locking elements
  • Specialist mechanical fixings
• Hands-on experience with conveyor pulley overhauls, gearbox rebuilds, hydraulic systems, lubrication systems, and pneumatics.
• Proficient in reading engineering drawings, blueprints, technical manuals, and work instructions.
• Skilled in the safe operation of workshop machinery, hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.
• Strong problem-solving, planning, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Committed to workplace health and safety and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

• Assemble, install, maintain, overhaul, and repair heavy mining equipment, conveyor systems, gearboxes, and industrial machinery.
  Perform bearing installation, end float adjustments, take-up adjustments, blue patterning, backlash setup, bolt tensioning, and installation of locking elements and specialist mechanical fixings.
  Rebuild and service industrial gearboxes, including Falk, Flender, David Brown, Sumitomo, SEW, and similar brands.
  Conduct conveyor pulley overhauls and perform maintenance on hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication systems.
  Apply component heating, expanding, shrinking, and precision fitting techniques during equipment assembly and repair.
  Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical manuals, assembly instructions, and specifications.
  Use precision measuring instruments to inspect, align, and verify mechanical components.
  Operate and maintain workshop equipment, hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, and mechanical fitting tools safely.
  Diagnose mechanical faults and recommend appropriate repair solutions.
  Complete inspection reports, maintenance records, assembly documentation, and production data accurately.
  Plan and prioritize work activities to achieve production and maintenance schedules.
  Conduct pre-start inspections and comply with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), and company safety procedures.
  Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
  Mentor apprentices and trades assistants by providing technical guidance and support when required.
  Perform additional mechanical fitting duties within trade competency to support manufacturing and operational requirements.
