Committee Australia is seeking experienced Fitters/Machinists to manufacture, repair, and maintain precision-machined components for industrial and mining equipment. The successful candidates will operate conventional and CNC machining equipment, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure all work meets engineering specifications, quality standards, and workplace safety requirements.

FITTER / MACHINIST

Qualifications:

• Trade Qualification in Machining or a related mechanical trade.
• Valid Driver’s Licence.
• Current High Risk Work Licence (Forklift and Dogging or Basic Rigging preferred).
• Proven experience operating and maintaining one or more of the following:
  • Centre Lathes
  • Milling Machines
  • Horizontal Borers
  • Drilling Machines
  • CNC Mills and CNC Lathes
• Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance and safe operation of machining equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical instructions, and specifications.
• Skilled in precision measurement, machine setup, tooling selection, and machining processes.
• Experience performing quality inspections and maintaining production documentation.
• Previous experience in the manufacture or repair of mining equipment and hydraulic cylinder components is highly regarded.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor apprentices and support workshop personnel.
• Strong commitment to workplace health, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Able to work independently and collaboratively while meeting production deadlines.

Responsibilities:

• Set up, operate, and maintain conventional and CNC machining equipment, including centre lathes, milling machines, horizontal borers, drilling machines, CNC mills, and CNC lathes.
• Manufacture, repair, and refurbish mechanical components, hydraulic cylinder parts, and mining equipment to engineering specifications.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical instructions, and machining specifications.
• Select appropriate machines, cutting tools, fixtures, and machining parameters to produce precision components.
• Perform turning, milling, boring, drilling, threading, and other machining operations.
• Measure and inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, and gauges.
• Conduct first-off inspections, quality checks, and complete inspection reports to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Monitor machining operations, adjust cutting conditions, and optimize production efficiency while maintaining product quality.
• Perform preventative maintenance and routine servicing of machining equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
• Maintain accurate production records, job documentation, timesheets, and maintenance reports.
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures, including pre-start inspections, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Take 5 risk assessments, and hazard reporting.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop environment.
• Mentor apprentices and trades assistants by providing technical guidance and support.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and workplace safety.
• Perform other fitting, machining, and workshop duties assigned by supervisors.
