COOPERANTE D.O.O. is seeking an experienced and responsible Captain (Fishing Vessel – Trawler) to lead fishing operations in Croatia. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely navigating and operating a trawler fishing vessel, supervising the crew, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, and overseeing all aspects of fishing operations. The ideal applicant has extensive sea-going experience, excellent leadership skills, and the required maritime certifications to command a commercial fishing vessel.
CAPTAIN (FISHING VESSEL – TRAWLER)
Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Fishing Vessel Captain.
- Proven experience operating a trawler fishing vessel.
- Possession of a valid Category C Vessel License (mandatory).
- Completion of all required maritime certificates, examinations, and certifications required for commercial vessel command.
- Strong knowledge of navigation, seamanship, vessel handling, fishing operations, and maritime safety regulations.
- Familiarity with marine navigation systems, GPS, radar, communication equipment, and electronic chart systems.
- Excellent leadership, decision-making, and crew management skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies and adverse weather conditions.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Physically fit and medically qualified for extended periods at sea.
Responsibilities:
- Command and safely navigate a trawler fishing vessel in accordance with maritime laws and company policies.
- Plan voyages, determine safe routes, and monitor weather and sea conditions to ensure safe vessel operations.
- Operate and manage the vessel during fishing operations, including trawling, hauling, and catch handling.
- Supervise and direct the vessel’s crew, assigning duties and ensuring efficient daily operations.
- Ensure compliance with international and local maritime safety regulations, fishing laws, and environmental requirements.
- Maintain vessel stability, cargo safety, and safe loading and unloading of fishing equipment and catch.
- Monitor the condition of the vessel, engines, navigation equipment, communication systems, and safety equipment.
- Coordinate routine maintenance and arrange repairs to keep the vessel in seaworthy condition.
- Complete and maintain vessel logs, navigation records, fish catch reports, cargo manifests, and other required documentation.
- Handle all fish-related paperwork and regulatory documentation accurately and on time.
- Conduct onboard safety drills and ensure the crew follows emergency procedures and occupational safety standards.
- Communicate effectively with port authorities, fisheries officials, company management, and other relevant agencies.
- Perform other duties related to vessel command and fishing operations as assigned by management.
