Committee Australia is seeking experienced Boilermakers/Welders to fabricate, assemble, repair, and weld structural steel components for industrial, mining, and heavy engineering projects. The successful candidates will perform precision fabrication and welding work while ensuring compliance with Australian quality, engineering, and workplace safety standards.
BOILERMAKER / WELDER
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in structural steel fabrication and welding.
- Skilled in MIG, Stick (SMAW), Wire Feeder (FCAW/MIG), Oxy Cutting, Gouging, and Lancing techniques.
- Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication specifications.
- Proficient in measuring, cutting, fitting, and fabricating steel components with precision.
- Experience operating fabrication tools, workshop machinery, and welding equipment safely.
- Sound knowledge of welding preparation, fabrication methods, production processes, and quality standards.
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety with experience conducting equipment inspections.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and communication skills.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Valid Driver’s Licence is required.
- The following licences or certifications are highly advantageous:
- Working at Heights
- Elevated Work Platform (EWP)
- Confined Space Entry
- Dogman/Rigging
- Forklift License
Responsibilities:
- Fabricate, assemble, and repair structural steel components, heavy steel structures, and fabricated assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Perform welding using MIG, Stick (SMAW), Wire Feeder (FCAW/MIG), as well as oxy cutting, gouging, and lancing techniques.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, fabrication details, and work instructions.
- Measure, mark, cut, shape, fit, and align steel materials to precise tolerances.
- Prepare materials for welding, including beveling, grinding, edge preparation, and joint fit-up.
- Operate fabrication equipment such as welding machines, cutting equipment, grinders, drills, presses, and other workshop machinery.
- Inspect fabricated and welded components to ensure compliance with quality standards and project specifications.
- Perform repairs, modifications, and rework as required.
- Conduct pre-start and post-operation inspections of tools, welding equipment, and machinery.
- Maintain accurate production records and report defects, equipment issues, and completed work.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop while following workplace health and safety regulations.
- Participate in toolbox meetings, safety briefings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist and mentor apprentices and junior trades personnel when required.
- Perform additional fabrication and welding duties within the scope of skills, qualifications, and competency.
