Glastonbury Purveyor Co Ltd is seeking an experienced Truck Technician to support the reliability, safety, and availability of its fleet in Jamaica. The successful candidate will perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and troubleshooting on trucks and fleet equipment. The role requires strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, brake, suspension, and refrigeration systems, together with a strong commitment to safety, accurate documentation, and quality workmanship.
Truck Technician
Qualifications:
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of related experience as a truck technician, diesel mechanic, fleet technician, or in a similar maintenance role.
- Must be at least a high school graduate.
- Skilled in troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and the use of relevant tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of vehicle diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
- Knowledge and practical experience in diesel engine diagnostics and repair.
- Knowledge of pneumatic, brake, and suspension systems.
- Experience with refrigeration equipment maintenance is required for applicable fleet assets.
- Ability to use vehicle diagnostic equipment, testing instruments, hand tools, and workshop equipment effectively.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures and maintenance planning.
- Ability to identify the root causes of recurring vehicle and equipment failures.
- Good understanding of vehicle safety inspections and maintenance compliance requirements.
- Ability to follow manufacturer specifications, maintenance schedules, company procedures, and applicable legislation.
- Good English communication and comprehension skills.
- Ability to complete work orders, maintenance records, service reports, and other technical documentation accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Physically fit and capable of performing hands-on truck maintenance and repair duties.
- Strong sense of accountability, reliability, teamwork, and safety.
- Willingness to respond to emergency breakdowns and urgent maintenance requirements when necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on assigned trucks, fleet vehicles, and equipment.
- Inspect vehicles and equipment according to approved maintenance schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
- Identify worn, damaged, or defective components before they result in equipment failure.
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, braking, suspension, and refrigeration systems.
- Diagnose faults and determine the appropriate repair or maintenance requirements.
- Perform diesel engine diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify mechanical and performance problems.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, wiring, starting and charging systems, sensors, and related components.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their associated components.
- Inspect, service, and repair brake and suspension systems to maintain safe vehicle operation.
- Maintain and troubleshoot refrigeration equipment installed on applicable fleet vehicles.
- Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining required quality and workmanship standards.
- Use appropriate diagnostic equipment, tools, testing instruments, and workshop equipment safely and effectively.
- Verify that repairs and maintenance work have been completed correctly before returning vehicles or equipment to service.
- Conduct safety inspections before releasing vehicles and equipment for operation.
- Respond to emergency vehicle breakdowns and carry out necessary troubleshooting and repairs when required.
- Perform root-cause analysis on recurring mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or refrigeration failures.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions to improve fleet reliability, safety, and operational availability.
- Ensure all repairs comply with manufacturer specifications, company procedures, and applicable legislation.
- Immediately report critical safety defects, major equipment faults, and other conditions that may affect safe operation.
- Complete work orders accurately and promptly after performing maintenance and repair activities.
- Record labor hours, parts used, repairs performed, inspection findings, and maintenance history.
- Maintain complete and accurate service and maintenance records for assigned fleet assets.
- Report recurring defects and significant maintenance issues to the Fleet Manager.
- Support maintenance planning through accurate inspection findings, service records, and technical reports.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop and work area.
- Ensure tools, diagnostic equipment, and workshop machinery remain clean, safe, and serviceable.
- Properly store spare parts, tools, lubricants, consumables, and other workshop materials.
- Assist with inventory control and report requirements for parts, tools, and maintenance supplies.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures and maintain safe working practices at all times.
- Work cooperatively with fleet personnel, supervisors, drivers, and other maintenance team members.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving fleet reliability, reducing downtime, and maintaining operational efficiency.
- Perform other truck maintenance, repair, inspection, and workshop duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Must have a valid passport for more than 3 years
- Employment certificates
- NBI clearance valid for at least 1 year with “no derogatory / no record on file” remarks
- PEOS certificate
