MARINE PILOT
Qualifications:
- Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Sciences with a Second Officer Certificate, or a Marine Diploma with a First Officer Certificate.
- Must have at least 7 years of experience in marine pilotage at international ports.
- Proven experience piloting and maneuvering different types and sizes of vessels.
- Proficient in handling vessels using modern navigation systems and equipment.
- Good command of spoken and written English.
- Knowledge of Kuwait maritime laws, regulations, and standards, as well as applicable IMO standards.
- Ability to operate safely under various weather, sea, tide, current, and visibility conditions.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergency and high-pressure situations.
- Strong knowledge of vessel maneuvering, port navigation, berthing, unberthing, and restricted-water operations.
- Good understanding of maritime safety procedures, navigational practices, and risk management.
- Ability to communicate effectively with vessel masters, bridge teams, port authorities, tug operators, and other marine personnel.
- Strong situational awareness, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Must hold a valid GMDSS Certificate.
- Physically and mentally capable of performing marine pilotage duties under demanding operational conditions.
- Safety-conscious, responsible, disciplined, and committed to professional maritime standards.
Responsibilities:
- Safely pilot and maneuver vessels entering, leaving, and navigating within ports and designated waterways.
- Handle and maneuver different types and sizes of commercial and marine vessels according to operational requirements.
- Assess vessel movement, prevailing sea conditions, weather, tides, currents, visibility, and other navigational factors before and during pilotage operations.
- Use modern navigation and communication systems to safely guide vessels through port approaches, channels, berths, and other restricted areas.
- Coordinate vessel movements with masters, bridge teams, port authorities, tug operators, mooring teams, and other relevant personnel.
- Provide appropriate navigational advice to vessel masters and bridge teams during pilotage operations.
- Conduct safe berthing, unberthing, docking, undocking, turning, and maneuvering operations.
- Maintain continuous awareness of surrounding vessels, navigational hazards, port infrastructure, and waterway conditions.
- Follow approved navigation procedures, port operating requirements, and established maritime safety standards.
- Comply with applicable Kuwait maritime laws, regulations, and standards, as well as relevant IMO standards.
- Monitor navigation equipment, communication systems, and other bridge equipment required for safe vessel operations.
- Maintain effective communication with port control, vessel crews, and other marine personnel.
- Take appropriate action during emergencies, equipment failures, restricted visibility, adverse weather, or other unexpected situations.
- Assist in emergency response and implement safe navigational procedures when required.
- Evaluate risks associated with vessel movements and take appropriate precautions to prevent accidents, collisions, groundings, or damage to port facilities.
- Maintain accurate pilotage records, reports, and other required operational documentation.
- Report navigational incidents, near misses, equipment problems, or other safety concerns to the appropriate authorities or management.
- Maintain professional communication and good working relationships with vessel crews, port personnel, and marine service providers.
- Ensure pilotage activities are conducted with the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and professionalism.
- Participate in safety briefings, operational meetings, and relevant marine training activities.
- Maintain required marine certifications and ensure compliance with applicable licensing and competency requirements.
- Perform other marine pilotage and navigational duties as assigned.
