PRODUCTION MANAGER (Plastics Recovery And Sorting)
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in production operations within heavy industry, manufacturing, mining, materials processing, or recycling.
- Proven experience leading and supervising a production crew or team.
- Hands-on experience operating or managing a sorting or separation plant.
- Experience with one or more of the following technologies is required or highly desirable: optical sorting, near-infrared (NIR), X-ray, eddy current, or density separation.
- Experience in plastics recovery, polymer sorting, recycling, or resource recovery is highly desirable.
- Experience with near-infrared sorting or setting up sensor-based sorting equipment is an advantage.
- Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Process, Chemical, Mining, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- Comfortable operating a skid steer and forklift.
- Strong understanding of production processes, material handling, sorting, separation, and quality control.
- Ability to plan daily production against targets and maintain accurate production records.
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills relating to process performance and product quality.
- Strong leadership and crew-management skills.
- Clear spoken and written English, particularly for safety instructions, team supervision, production communication, and written reports.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Physically capable of working in an industrial recycling and materials-processing environment.
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with production, maintenance, and management teams.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise daily production activities within the plastics recovery and sorting operation.
- Plan daily production activities against established production targets and priorities.
- Allocate tasks, supervise crew members, and ensure production activities are completed safely and efficiently.
- Operate and monitor plastics sorting and separation plant and related production equipment.
- Work with advanced sorting technologies, including optical, near-infrared, X-ray, eddy current, and density separation systems, as applicable.
- Set up, monitor, and adjust sensor-based sorting equipment to achieve required material recovery and quality targets.
- Apply knowledge of near-infrared (NIR) sorting for polymer identification and separation where required.
- Monitor production throughput, recovery rates, product quality, equipment performance, and process efficiency.
- Identify process problems, quality issues, equipment abnormalities, and production bottlenecks and take appropriate corrective action.
- Exercise sound judgment when making decisions affecting production, process performance, and material quality.
- Inspect recovered and sorted plastics to ensure materials meet required quality specifications.
- Coordinate sorting, separation, processing, and material handling activities to maintain continuous production.
- Operate or assist with the operation of skid steers and forklifts when required and appropriately authorized.
- Ensure materials are safely moved, loaded, unloaded, stored, and positioned within the production facility.
- Maintain accurate daily production records, operational data, quality records, and shift reports.
- Prepare clear written production reports and communicate production performance to management.
- Monitor staffing, production schedules, equipment availability, and material flow to meet daily targets.
- Train, guide, and support production personnel in safe operating procedures and efficient work practices.
- Ensure all workers follow workplace health and safety requirements, including correct use of personal protective equipment.
- Conduct or participate in toolbox meetings, safety discussions, production briefings, and operational reviews.
- Monitor equipment condition and report maintenance requirements, breakdowns, and technical issues promptly.
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel to minimize production downtime and restore equipment to service efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production environment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, material recovery, product quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
- Perform other production management and operational duties assigned by management.
